Description
Weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly yoga, meditation, and mindfulness classes provided for individuals who cannot attend or afford studio yoga classes. These are offered in partnership with local nonprofits, schools, and other organizations who recognize the potential for improved physical, mental and emotional health of their constituents. This includes closed classes where participants must be part of the partner organization, such as a school or rehabilitation facility. It also includes open community classes, which are open to the public partner locations such as public libraries, farmers' markets, parks, and multi-cultural community centers. All are led by SWY volunteer instructors and further our mission of connecting people and creating community by increasing access to yoga.
Program Successes
Recent Testimonials from some of our Community Partners:
"Since 2014, we have partnered with Small World Yoga to receive weekly on-site yoga classes. SWY instructors are well-trained and prepared to work with clients from diverse backgrounds as well as with those who have physical and emotional challenges. SWY's community outreach is purposeful to accommodate Nashville's changing demographics. " - Malinda Hersh, The Next Door
"Small World Yoga's vision to increase the accessibility of yoga to everyone by offering opportunities to our participants help us to provide holistic care to those who are most vulnerable and living on the streets of Nashville. The practice of yoga provides a moment of respite from the chaos they are experiencing on a daily basis and has made a positive impact for those who attend the class. Long-term Success
We now have over 100 volunteer yoga instructors and serve 3,500 individuals monthly through 325 classes at 85 community partner locations.
Program Success Monitored By
To measure the success of our programming, we gather both quantitative and qualitative data. Our yoga instructors enter attendance at each class into our database Kintone, which allows us to track our reach by location and as a whole on a weekly basis. Our Outreach Manager will hold regular check-ins with partner location staff to gather feedback on the effectiveness of the programming. In addition, we will conduct impact surveys among students and staff of locations to inquire about the benefits received, tools learned and incorporated into life, and if they feel the programming is valuable on an individual and community-wide level. Ultimately, we measure success by the students' physical, mental, and emotional well-being and how that positively impacts their lives and subsequently how they interact with their community.
