Description
We are dedicated to amplifying the voices of those children affected by war. We are involved in social justice and are committed to raising awareness of war-affected children, child soldiering, and those oppressed in Africa by telling their stories and sharing their drawings. Through speaking engagements and events, we actively raise awareness of the wars in Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda; raising awareness of the atrocities of numerous rebel forces, specifically the Lord's Resistance Army. By displaying the children's artwork, we hope to bring their stories to a broader audience for the sake of justice and change.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

Challenges: In Northern Ugandan and DR Congo, the needs remain great. Only a small percentage of those traumatized by war have the opportunity to receive holistic care, rehabilitation and empowerment opportunities. The number of rescued child soldiers and war-affected children/orphans far exceed the current capacities of NGO's and humanitarian aid organizations. A great challenge for EI's care centers remains a lack of resources and capacity to serve the target population. Example: EI's Peace Lives Rehabilitative Care Center (Goma, DR Congo) turns away 50-200 war-affected children each month for lack of resources to meet current needs (these children are monthly requested referrals from local UN and Red Cross offices).Opportunities: Over the next 3 years, EI aims to double the capacity of it's care centers in Northern Uganda and DR Congo. With the support of donor partners to resource this opportunity, thousands more war-affected children will be rehabilitated and reintegrated into communities, thus positively influencing socioeconomic structures and development of communities throughout this region.
