Description
This class provides the setting for both parents and children to make new friendships and feel part of a community, which, is often missing in the lives of military families. Medically, we know a parent's bonding with an infant can predict a child's ability to develop healthy relationships, handle conflicts, and live an overall healthier life well into adulthood. As such, ASYMCA has created Operation Little Learner, which provides a connection to a community of support and fun and engaging activities to ensure that parents and their child/children learn ways to grow together as a family.
The program results in parents and children that are stronger and more resilient, who not only develop and grow due to the organized curriculum, but also connect to a support network filled with other moms and dads experiencing the same military life challenges. With a focus on phonics, writing, science, and math skills, each student graduates fully prepared for Kindergarten having established a found
Program Successes
Operation Little Learners results in stronger and more resilient parents and children.
"Colton has had an exciting year attending. He has made friends and loves telling me about his day. We have seen a huge improvement in his communication skills." - military parent
"Jesse would not have had the chance to attend an education program due to our financial situation. The education he received was far beyond our expectations." - military parent

Long-term Success
Success in this program is the construction of a solid foundation for parents to utilize in preparing their child for formal education. We are building and creating tools, based on research and educational doctrine, that can assure a parent they are moving in the right direction with their child's education. This is also a program where parents can socialize, interact and learn from each other ways to move their child forward. Fun is the format but results are the goal!
Short-term Success
We need to increase enrollment for this program. Much of our advertisement is word of mouth or social media. While we want to grow, we are limited somewhat by space. Growing the program would mean increasing the frequency of sessions rather than the size of the session. Student/teacher ratio isn't an issue in this class as the parents attend with the child.
Program Success Monitored By
Our national HQ supplies the outline for a survey to be conducted prior to and at the end of the "semester". We tailor that survey to our specific branch and present it to our parents.

The Little Hero program is offered each school year to children ages 3 and 4. Junior enlisted families can benefit from a structured learning environment designed to prepare children for Kindergarten. Our curriculum meets state standard alignments and maintains the highest standards and foundational principles. Little Heroes is a half-day early learning program that supports kindergarten readiness for military children by providing an affordable, high-quality educational experience with trained facilitators.
Program Successes
"Mason loves learning. We were concerned that he may be uninterested, unfocused and unexcited about attending a preschool. How surprised we are that he is engaged, learning and looking forward to each class. Recently our family decided to accept a new duty station. It was so wonderful when the teacher supplied a learning pack of activities and lesson plans for our family on his last day. He will still feel like he is a part of the class and I have the educational tools to work with him during this transition." - military parent

Long-term Success
Long term success for this program is a child entering a public or private school Kindergarten classroom, fully prepared both academically and socially ready to succeed.
Short-term Success
Acclimating a child to what is often a first experience in a room without their parent for an extended period of time is often our first milestone in this program. Next we begin to see them come out of their shells, interacting with their peers and engaged with their own learning. Seeing their proud moments of understanding and breakthroughs and wathcing them take their learning to their parents is another determining and satisfying milestone.
Program Success Monitored By
As with our other programs, surveys are the usual success monitors. We also depend on our parents to be open and forthright with their needs and concerns throughout the school year.

Providing affordable clothing, furniture, and household items to military members and their families can make a big difference financially for many. With shopping options limited due to restrictive family budgets (single income, single vehicle, etc) and greatly affected by the cost of gas, a family's basic needs can be hard to come by. The Thrift Store's accessibility on base makes shopping a convenience, encouraging sound financial decisions and stronger families down the road.
The recent addition of the food panty ensure that even when families find themselves struggling between pay periods they never go hungry. The Armed Services YMCA offers a free food pantry for active duty families who are welcome to browse and select from pantry staples, bread, and hygiene products.
Program Successes
We hear delighted stories/reviews on facebook and social media outlets - being able to provide a much needed item at a time of greatest need is why we exist. We love to see patrons tell their friends on line and tag us in a post that states "check out the ASYMCA Thrift Store on post"
Beneficiaries
Families
Economically disadvantaged people
Long-term Success
Increasingly becoming the "go-to" location for basic needs and food items for military families in need.

The ASYMCA Children's Waiting Room (ACWR) is a free program that provides a safe, nurturing environment for children while their parents attend medical appointments. This program enables junior enlisted service members and their families to make both mental and physical health and well-being a priority. This unique program provides child care services for the military hospital next door to our facility. This is crucial as well children are not allowed to accompany parents or siblings to medical appointments.
Program Successes
For Parents: This program improves access to health care by removing lack of child care as a barrier. When families have the ability to drop off their children inside a hospital or clinic for no or low-cost child care, they are more likely to attend scheduled appointments.
"I can attend not just my own appointments but appointments for my older son with Autism/ADHD without my toddler needing to come too. Without Children's Waiting Room, my family's medical care would not have been able to continue." - Military Parent
"I love this option at the hospital. It makes doctor appointments a breeze! Thank you so much for having this available for us!!" - Military Parent
For Hospitals: In locations with a Children's Waiting Room, hospital administrators report a drop in no-show rates.
"The hospital does not charge a fee for missing appointments, but the 5 to 8% no-show rate equates to about $500,000 a month cost for the hospital. By opening the children's waiting room, the hospital hopes t

lower missed appointment percentages. Remove lack of available childcare as number one reason for missing wellness appointments.
Program Success Monitored By
We plan to coordinate with the medical facilities to receive quarterly reports of reduction in missed appointments.
We will track monthly points of service.
We will survey program participants.
