Description
Cheekwood is the region's premier repository for fine art in a historic setting and a top destination for outdoor, contemporary sculpture. Its permanent collections feature photographs by Louise Dahl-Wolfe, sculptures by William Edmondson, and works by Red Grooms, Georgia O'Keeffe, Andy Warhol, and other major American artists. Cheekwood's Ann & Monroe Carell Jr. Family Sculpture Trail includes outdoor, sculptures by Siah Armajani, Jenny Holzer, James Turrell, Virginia Overton, Alicja Kwade, and more. In 2024, Cheekwood will continue its dynamic, arts-based programming with exhibitions from the permanent collection, established artists, and emerging talent. Exhibitions include Edgar Degas, The Private Impressionist: Works on Paper by the Artist and His Circle, Thomas Dambo's TROLLS: Save the Humans, INTERVENTIONS: Ann Carrington, and Wonder Women: Women Printmakers of the 1970s.

Programs include summer camp, Tots!, multicultural festivals, special music performances, wellness classes, guided tours, and adult education workshops. Summer Camp offers interactive classes on art and nature for children. Tots! activities and story-time for pre-K ages are offered in the Children's Garden. Multicultural festivals include - Holi celebrates the annual Festival of Color; Black Art Bash highlights African American arts and heritage; El Dia de los Muertos marks the Day of the Dead; and Japanese Moon Viewing celebrates the harvest moon. Visitors enjoy special musical performances in the gardens during the spring, summer, and fall. Visitors can participate in a variety of wellness classes throughout the estate. Daily guided tours of Cheekwood's museum and gardens are offered to visitors of all ages. Adult education workshops provide learning experiences in art and nature inspired activities.

Cheekwood's 55-acre botanical garden and woodland have matured into an important natural landscape and horticultural resource. Cheekwood is an accredited Level 2 Arbnet Arboretum and recognized as a Center of Excellence by the Tennessee Urban Forestry Council. Features include a nationally accredited dogwood collection, 14 acres of woodland, 13 display gardens, 250,000 spring bulbs, and 25,000 annuals grown in onsite production greenhouses. Cheekwood's seasonal festivals are community favorites and family traditions. Cheekwood in Bloom showcases vibrant color throughout the gardens, with blooming buds such as hyacinths, daffodils, and tulips. Summertime at Cheekwood includes Thursday Night Out and Under the Stars concert series. Cheekwood Harvest features pumpkin houses, chrysanthemums, and fall favorites. Holiday LIGHTS presents over 1 million lights displayed throughout the grounds.

Destination Cheekwood: FREE Family Field Trips brings families from Title I schools to Cheekwood on weekends with transportation, admission, programming, translation, and meals provided.
Cheekwood GROWS provides immersive, multi-faceted experiences for 3rd grade students that teaches them about gardening and food production
Cheekwood on the Road sends educators to Title I schools for a half-day of immersive, hands-on art activities.
Home School Days offer art and horticulture curriculum for homeschool students and families.
Empower Paid Internships are available to students enrolled in area colleges and universities.
