Description
Ella's house hosts monthly educational and community outreach programs for pregnant and parenting collegiate students throughout the greater Nashville area. Each month, single mothers gather at Ella's House for classes on mental health, career readiness, pregnancy nutrition, birthing, financial planning, healthy infant development, lactation, leadership, postpartum prep, academic study skills, and time management. Classes are led by area professionals and professors from Lipscomb University, Belmont University, Vanderbilt University, Fisk University, TSU and Trevecca Nazarene University.

Ella's house pride's cell phone inclusivity. Rather than operating as a standalone nonprofit, we partner with a myriad of ministries in agency serving single women and children. Hope clinic, ELI's House, Sunny Side Up, Monroe Harding, and Safe Haven Family Shelter are just a few of our collaborative partners. Women from these agencies attend Ella's House monthly educational activities.

Description
When single mothers drop out of school their earning potential plummets. In fact, $3.8 billion equals the national cost of dropping out of college measured by lost earnings in a single year. With limited earning potential, many women are forced to secure government funding and resources to support themselves and their baby. Ella's House will reduce economic strain in our community.

Studies show, 38% of women who get abortions do so because, "having a baby interferes with their education." The CDC reports abortion is a higher-ed issue, with most abortions provided to women in their twenties. All pregnancies may cause temporary existential and emotional crises in women, and yet we also know abortion can be tied to mental health struggles. Ella's House provides her with support, community and wellness, so that keeping her baby seems plausible.

Long-term Success
Ella's House will continue to strive to eliminate collegiate drop out rates throughout the 20+ colleges in the Greater Nashville Area. Finally, by making Ella's House services available we intend to decrease abortion rates for collegiate women. When a pregnant student chooses to keep her baby and pursue higher education, positive outcomes ensue such as earning potential, career advancement, physical health, mental health, and less reliance on government services/assistance.

Statistics regarding college drop out rates related to unintended pregnancy and/or collegiate abortion rates are difficult to obtain due to lack of self reporting. However, local colleges purport that unintended pregnancies are an issue that their campuses are not equipped to fully support.
Ella's House has one facility right now that can house up to four women. We see a long-term need for multiple facilities throughout the area or one large/multi housing facility to meet the pressing needs.
