CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
BrightStone is a constantly growing and changing organization. We are committed to meet the growing needs of the population we serve as well as defining new and innovative ways to lead, staff, and plan to better help them become more independent and fulfilled. Research and medical advances continue to revolutionize services for the adults we serve. As providers, we are entrusted with an obligation to determine the best services and commit to providing them. Many times this means to change directions, change staffing, change the way services are being provided. Each time we change, we grow and learn and become better at what we do. One challenge is to acquire and sustain highly efficient and dedicated direct services staff who teach, train, advise, and assist this very vulnerable population. We provide professional development days throughout the year to assure that staff has the tools to be successful in meeting the needs of our adults. We celebrate the caregivers and the investment of their lives and energy in caring for others by providing periodic TLC days (Teachers Leaving Campus) when substitute teachers, parents, and leadership staff assist the students while the teaching staff goes out for lunch and a time of relaxation; monthly birthday celebrations; recognitions for milestone years of employment; dress-down days, and 'kudos' at monthly staff meeting to recognize a 'job well done.' As with many non-profits, volunteerism is a large part of our successful provision of services. These volunteers are valuable to our program and are trained and carefully placed into areas of work in which they will experience success and personal fulfillment. We provide staff to oversee the volunteer program and volunteer training to make sure they have the tools for success. We celebrate each volunteer with a yearly luncheon, "Volunteer of the Year Award," and occasional "volunteer of the day".Our challenge for the future is to strategically plan for additional staff and new positions to meet the needs of a new campus and provision of 24/7 care. We have visited several functioning campuses around the country and have completed a proforma which accounts for this need going forward and in stages of future growth. We have revisited our current organizational structure and are implementing a new structure which will lead us into this future environment. BrightStone is a wonderful place to work where each person is valued as vital to our program and to the adults we serve. We love to take the time to celebrate each and every one. |
