CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
Family & Children's Service has been making a difference in the lives of children and youth for over 75 years. Throughout each year we learn of how the young people we have served are doing. Addison and his grandmother have been part of the Relative Caregiver Program for nearly 10 years. His is an amazing success story that we know will continue past his current college adventures. Please read his own words about his life growing up with his grandmother who he calls "Ma-Ma." Family & Children's Service had the honor of being a part of their journey together. "The Relative Caregiver Program has made a significant difference to my grandma and me. It has provided us with many events and opportunities to strengthen our environment. Some things that I am very proud of that I have taken part in over the years include Karate, Boy Scouts, and Youth Group. I earned my Eagle Scout Award, and I traveled to many places for campouts, including a week-long trip to Minnesota consisting of canoeing and fishing. Youth group was made up of helping the needy and homeless. I am very grateful for the extracurricular activities I have been a part of. My Ma-Ma has had a bigger impact on me than any other person I have known. She raised me from a very young age and taught me to respect adults and my peers. She has steered me away from any troublesome activities and placed me in an environment that has taught me to be constructive and intelligent. I owe all of my success to her. She provided all of the tools I needed to avoid becoming another statistic. I have gone in the positive direction I am headed in now due to hard work and the confidence that friends and family have shown me. They help me to believe that I can accomplish whatever task is handed to me. My Ma-Ma had me participate in Scouts and Youth Group which kept me from going down the wrong path and connected me with people who could help in times of need. I would not be in college had it not been for the influence of positive role models. Today I am a student at Morehouse College. When I graduate from college, I would love to come back to Nashville and help clean up some communities. I would like to take the knowledge I gain from school and use it to help others who come from similar situations as mine. Whether it be law or medical school, I hope to work as hard as I can saving lives or keeping youth out of prison. The Relative Caregiver Program means a lot to me. It gives relatives the opportunity to become closer and provides activities to make families stronger and more secure. It helped my Ma-Ma and I through some hard times and I am very grateful to have been a part of it. Thank You Family & Children's Service." |
