Description
Circle has produced several productions in collaboration with local universities, including Tennessee State University, Vanderbilt University, Lipscomb University, and Middle Tennessee State University. These productions provide both constituencies with excellent educational opportunities: Circle volunteers work with theatre professionals in modern venues and university theatre students see how a community theatre produces high quality shows with volunteers and a real-world budget. Most recently, Circle Players has been closely associated with Vanderbilt Off-Broadway, a student-run extra curricular theatre organization for students who are pursuing degrees outside of theatre but still want to participate in the arts. Most notably, we have given one of the students the opportunity to be a lighting designer for our production of Avenue Q and were able to offer her a small scholarship in appreciation of her work. Not only did Circle Players provide her with an opportunity to learn outside of the school setting, we were able to learn from her about how to further engage students like her. We plan to continue providing opportunities like this to students all over Middle Tennessee.

Description
Circle Players understands the importance of giving back to the community. Each season, we perform some type of activity that positively gives back to the community we serve. Some examples of this include the following:During our 69th Season's production of Avenue Q, we raised money during the performance (as is traditionally done during 'The Money Song') to donate to Nashville Rescue Mission. Homelessness, although a serious topic, was a theme within this musical comedy and the cast, along with the organization, felt it was important to raise awareness about this issue in our community and raise money to help them fulfill their mission. During our 68th Season, we offered a special performance of Disney's Beauty and the Beast for children and families who attend the community center at the Looby Theatre, our performance home. These students and families might not otherwise have the resources to attend a live theatrical production and so this is a very important opportunity to reach out to our community. We will continually seek opportunities during our upcoming seasons to continue providing similar opportunities for underserved populations or other organizations whose local missions are reflected in the themes of our shows. Additionally, our actors often volunteer at Metro Davidson County public and private school events or other community settings upon special request. Circle provides discounted tickets to schools and groups.

Description
From time to time, Circle Players offers theatre arts workshops to youth (aimed at middle school aged students) and other aspiring artists at an affordable price. The workshops are taught by highly trained and creative artist teachers, and offer instruction on all aspects of theatre arts, including acting, playwriting, set building, and stage direction. Circle also offers scholarships for these workshops. We will be evaluating this program in light of current safety and restrictions due to COVID-19 and hope to restart when it is both safe and permissible.
