Katina's Experience: Katina Beard serves as the chief executive officer of Matthew Walker Comprehensive Health Center, Inc. (MWCHC) the first federally qualified health center in Tennessee. As the senior leader, Katina is responsible for guiding the strategic objectives that provide quality health care services and programs to over 15,000 patients in Nashville, Smyrna, and Clarksville. Prior to being named CEO in 2015, she held several key positions with MWCHC that allowed her to grow into a strong advocate for health equity. In the early years Katina served as operations manager, overseeing all non-clinical patient services including patient scheduling and registration, transportation, and facility management. As years progressed, she became the lead grant writer for MWCHC and has a successful award history through local, state, and national funders. These awards have allowed MWCHC to implement clinical sites in Clarksville and Smyrna as well as purchase a mobile unit that services all areas. Currently, Katina serves as a member of the Nashville Community Safety Advisory Board, Nashville Cable, Rutherford Cable, and she is the past president of the Tennessee Primary Care Association. She also serves on several committees that seek to address the needs of poorly resourced communities. Katina settled into Nashville permanently after graduating from Tennessee State University with her Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Administration and Planning and Meharry Medical College where she earned her Master of Science in Public Health. She is a dedicated Girl Scout Troop leader of over 10 years with Service Unit 051. Katina is married to Michael Beard, and they have a daughter Makayla that attends North Carolina A&T State University, and their son Kendall is a senior at Stewarts Creek High School. |
