Mission

Christian Cooperative Ministry is committed to serving members of our community by supplying food boxes, sack lunches and free clothing to those in need.

Background

In 1983, sixteen area churches saw the need for a consolidation of human services for Madison. They established a non-denominational organization to help families in need. With the growing need for our services, we have gone from an average of 15 food boxes ten years ago to over 40 food boxes per day. We have become one of the busiest food banks in the Nashville area. We have expanded our reach that started primarily in the Madison area to encompass Davidson county. We serve those on limited income and need is required via SSI, Food Stamps, Disability, Section 8 housing and such. We provide lunch sacks to the homeless population that can not utilize a food pantry or food kitchen due to lack of transportation and ability to store food products. We provide donated clothing to our clients free of charge.

Impact

1. We distributed more than 11,000 food boxes serving more than 13,000 people in the fiscal year ending 2022. We abide by the USDA guidelines supplying proteins, vegetables, fruits and all items per their distribution guidelines, additionally we put in such items as fresh vegetables, canned meat, desserts, spices, coffee, sugar or flour and more. 2. We dispensed more than 6,000 homeless daily food bags. These are not just a lunch bag but is a full day's food. We include several drinks (water/juice/sport drinks), canned fruits and vegetables, canned protein products (chicken, tuna, beans) snacks, breakfast bars and more. We offer each one hygiene products including combs, razors, soap and deodorant. 3. We issued 400 special Thanksgiving baskets. These baskets are not counted as part of the client's regular allotment. They are designed for a holiday dinner, including such items as turkey or hams, eggs, brown sugar and many other items not in typical food boxes. 4. We also presented 15,000 items of clothing to our clients. Many of these were given out as part of homeless outreach, we allow each homeless person to come in and get a fresh outfit from socks to shirt/blouse and underwear (as appropriate) as needed. 5. We furnished 1,000 toiletry items of various description, based on client need. This is custom made for each client that request these types of items. It may include toothpaste, soap, shampoo, or a combination of all these.
