Mission

The mission of the Sumner County Museum is to make the history of Sumner County meaningful and attractive to be a broad audience by collecting, studying, exhibiting, and interpreting through educational programming, special exhibits, publications and research.

Background

The Sumner County Museum was founded in 1975. Originally, artifacts and exhibits were housed in historic Trousdale Place. The museum was built on Trousdale Place's grounds and was opened in 1985 by John Garrott and Robert Ramsey During the majority of its existence the museum has been ran and operated through volunteer efforts. In 2015, two properties/buildings/homes were acquired by the museum. John Garrott raised the funds to purchase the Carriage House for the Sumner County Museum in 2015. He also donated his home, known as Stonewall, in the same year, but has just become available to the museum in 2018. Both homes were built in 1831 and have much potential but will require renovations. There is a bright future ahead for the museum.
