Description
The Friends of Lonesome Historic Site has engaged a well-known professional restoration company that specializes in log structures to carry out the the complete restoration of the cabin. Currently, work is scheduled to begin in May, 2022.

Long-term success will be the successful completion of the restoration of the cabin to the standards of the National Register of Historic Places. That will enable us to begin furnishing the cabin with historical artifacts and creating a museum of pioneer life.

Description
An interactive web-based program, whereby students, teachers, and visitors can visit the Lonesome cemetery and "hear" historical stories from the deceased, by accessing the Lonesome Historical Site online. This program is nearing completion and will soon be on the website.

Lonesome Family Cemetery

Description
This program, funded by a grant from CFMT, has recently been completed, and is designed as a complement to the social studies curriculum discussed above. The timing allows two groups to visit the site simultaneously. The tour will function in the same manner, and focus on the natural environment of the site, especially that of Beaverdam Creek. As the house has not been lived in since 1972, the area has largely returned to its natural state. Success will be measured in the same way. The budget is in development. We expect field trips to begin in the spring of 2020.
Short-term Success
Unfortunately, the closing of schools in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic has eliminated any planned field trips to the site. We hope that some teachers are using the online materials for virtual field trips for their classes.

Description
This program will follow the accepted professional standards for historic cemetery management. Our goal includes full documentation of the Austin Cemetery, employing an instrument survey and ground penetrating radar to identify the location of marked and unmarked graves. The cost for the surveys is estimated at $6,513. Once the survey is completed, we will be able to install appropriate fencing and create a path and information for visitors, in keeping with our educational goals. The Board has voted the necessary funds to build a stone wall with an antique cast iron gate at the entrance. Construction is projected in early October 2022. We have received a grant from CFMT to prepare a school field trip for the cemetery entitled "If these graves could talk," and are planning further grant applications.
Program Successes
The cemetery specialist of the Tennessee Historical Society visited the cemetery in October 2021, and was impressed with Joe Austin's progress and professionalism.

The surveys have been completed and are being programmed. Monies to construct the stone wall and gate have been voted by the Board, with construction projected for October 2022.

Description
In keeping with our primary goal of education, the Social Studies Field Trip curriculum (prepared thanks to a grant from CFMT), provides a guided visit to Lonesome Historic Site designed for the 6th grade Social Studies curriculum of the Tennessee public schools. The tour was designed by curriculum professionals to align with Tennessee standards in social studies. The information for nine stations on the property is delivered via cellphone in text and voice, allowing students and teachers the flexibility to move freely about the site at their own pace. Thanks to the completion of a new access road and suitable space for school buses, the first field trips should visit the site in the spring of 2020. The budget is currently in development.

As is the case with our environmental curriculum, the pandemic has cancelled all field trips. The material is still available online, and we are trying to let teachers involved in distance learning aware of the availability of these virtual field trips.
