Description
In May 2014, THEI launched a program at TCIX, a medium security prison for men in Middle Tennessee. The Fall 2019 semester will see 73 students matriculating in six courses. The students, who also work full-time, take 2-4 courses per semester in the evenings leading towards an Associate's degree from Nashville State Community College in one of two majors: Business Administration and Political Science. Each spring, THEI conducts a new admissions cycle at Turney Center, which begins with a ten-week college prep course taught by THEI volunteers and professors. In each of THEI's academic program sites, THEI also provides Student Success & Reentry Services, which includes: regular one-on-one meetings at each prison facility at least one year prior to each person's release date; help securing financial aid, selecting & applying to colleges, and transferring credits to a new institution upon return home. THEI also provides a laptop computer and resources related to career planning.

Description
In January 2017, THEI expanded to Northwest Correctional Complex (NWCX), a medium security prison for men in West Tennessee. This program follows the THEI model that has been successfully established at our two previous sites; the students work full-time during the day and in the evenings take courses toward an A.S. Degree in Business Administration from Dyersburg State Community College. In January 2018, THEI welcomed NWCX Cohort 2 into the THEI community of learners, and THEI now enrolls a total of 38 students at Northwest across the two cohorts.
