To kick-off each new season, the Bryan Symphony Orchestra performs a free outdoor pops concert in Dogwood Park in Cookeville on the Sunday evening following labor day weekend. While the cost of hiring musicians for this concert is largely underwritten by a generous local sponsor, the cost of rental music, staff, and other materials remains an on-going need. Programming for a pops concert usually consists of number of works written in the 20th century. Music from popular movies or musicals, patriotic selections, and upbeat popular classical works are examples of appropriate music for a pops concert that is often requested by the audience. Modern music, however, is more expensive to rent than music from other periods.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
The Bryan Symphony Orchestra (BSO) has been performing concerts in Cookeville since 1963. We have a strong presence in the community and many individual, as well as business supporters in the Upper Cumberland Region. A challenge unique to the Bryan Symphony is the size of our performance hall, with a seating capacity of only 487. Even though the BSO often sells out for every subscription concert, ticket sales alone will never be enough to financially support our concert season. The BSO largely relies on individual contributions and grants to maintain our programs and performances. |
