Description
No child should face food insecurity. However, more than 1 in 5 kids in Middle TN have this experience. YES' kids reside in a food desert and are even more vulnerable, with over 93% of the students enrolled in our neighborhood schools depending on the daily Free or Reduced Lunch Program.

Moreover, our parents have limited resources and are financially overextended. The average family YES serves has 4 -5 children, and more than 9 in 10 households have an annual income that is less than $20k (in a city that requires 4 times that amount to live comfortably). Most of our families do not have technological devices to access distance learning tools.

YES knows youth development shouldn't be hampered because they are sitting at home. We're delivering books, enrichment activities, games, and a little sunshine along with our meals!

Many children who grow up in public housing have never had the opportunity to explore outside their own neighborhood. Each year over 300 children are taken to one of our week-long sessions to experience the wonders of nature at a 17-acre camp in Joelton, TN.

Description
Because many low-income children don't have access or exposure to the arts, YES has recently added an "Arts and Cultural Enrichment" program to bring the arts to them. YES has always incorporated art projects and music into our programs, but this new program will take us to a new level by bringing in several talented professionals to nurture the children's interests and talents in three areas: art, music and drama.
