Susan's Experience: Susan brings 25 years of nonprofit leadership experience to The Family Center. Prior to moving into the nonprofit world, she was a clinical social worker with experience in both medical and child/adolescent psychiatric fields. Additionally, she has marketing experience in several media areas. Her roles in nonprofits include serving for 6.5 years as President/CEO of Alzheimer's Greater Los Angeles (annual $5-$7mil budget, serving 3 major counties in SoCal); 5 years with Girl Scouts Greater Los Angeles (Development & VP Programs); 5 years as CEO of Our House (a grief support center). She also has nonprofit experience in Chattanooga where she worked for United Way and was the for Executive Director for the Center for Nonprofits.

The Family Center has a history of meeting the needs of some of our community's most vulnerable families. Since becoming a certified Child Abuse Prevention agency through the Department of Children's Services, the organization has pursued excellence in our mission of breaking intergenerational cycles of child abuse, neglect, & trauma. While program delivery has always demonstrated efficacy, our ability to communicate impact given the sometimes transient nature of the clients we serve has made it difficult. It's also made broadening our base of support more challenging. Over the past few years, we have shifted our focus to engage clients differently, moved programs into zip codes of greatest need, and expanded program delivery to better meet the needs of the diverse families we serve. We're also moving away from a reliance on government funding to establishing a strong, continuous base of donors and volunteers. The future is bright for The Family Center and that allows us to help brighten the futures of those we serve. We're changing lives, changing families, and changing children's futures!
