Term Start July 2013
Theresa's Experience: Theresa Patterson is Executive Director of both the Parish Twinning Program of the Americas (PTPA) and Visitation Hospital Foundation (VHF), two 501 (c)(3) organizations working to alleviate suffering and poverty in Haiti. Patterson founded PTPA 30 years ago, matching St. Henry Catholic Church in Nashville with a church in Beauchamp, Haiti. The program has now grown to over 350 "twinnings," linking churches and projects in the U.S./Canada with church communities in Haiti, and acquiring over $24 million in financial aid for these parishes. She has directed the organization of hundreds of medical mission trips and shipments of millions of dollars of donated goods to Haiti. Currently, there are 68 medical teams that provide medical support for their twinned parishes in Haiti through PTPA. Patterson's work with VHF dates back to 1999, after medical teams, who had been traveling to Haiti for 10 years, indicated the need for a medical facility, where physicians from all over Haiti could refer patients. The Foundation built a 4,065 sq. ft. Visitation Outpatient Clinic in the town of Petite Rivi?re de Nippes, in southwest Haiti. The clinic treats the 311,000 children and adults living without access to health care in this area. Currently, the staff treats 90-100 patients per day. Now that the clinic is constructed and operational, Patterson's dream is to raise funds toward the construction of a most needed inpatient facility. VHF is now raising funds for an Ambulatory Surgery Center, the second phase of a six-part building process, that will attach to the Clinic, expand the existing staffing quarters, and maintain Clinic operations. Patterson is a member of St. Henry Catholic Church, and is married to retired Plastic Reconstructive Surgeon, Dr. Warren Patterson. The couple resides in Nashville and have two children, Jeff and Karen, and one grandchild, Cole Patterson.
