Mission
Ascension Saint Thomas Foundation is a charitable organization providing philanthropic support to advance the mission and vision of Ascension Saint Thomas. Rooted in the loving ministry of Jesus as healer, we commit ourselves to serving all persons with special attention to those who are poor and vulnerable. Our Catholic health ministry is dedicated to spiritually centered, holistic care which sustains and improves the health of individuals and communities. We are advocates for a compassionate and just society through our actions and our words.
Background
Ascension Saint Thomas is a family of Middle Tennessee hospitals and physician practices united by a single mission: to provide spiritually centered, holistic care that sustains and improves the health of the communities we serve. The Foundation was created in 1978 to support Saint Thomas Hospital's mission of serving those in need of healthcare without regard for their ability to pay. The Ascension Saint Thomas Foundation advances the caring ministry and medical excellence of Ascension Saint Thomas by raising funds to ensure everyone in our community has access to the highest quality of care. Contributions to the Foundation support direct care of the poor and uninsured, the development of facilities, patient care innovations, clinical research, scholarships and continuing education opportunities.

The purpose of the Foundation is to advance excellent healthcare, support our caregivers, and care for all patients through good stewardship of charitable donations.
Advancing Excellent Healthcare
All persons deserve the best care available which is both accessible and exceptional. The Foundation strives to ensure this is possible by supporting technological advancements, facility improvements and campus enhancements that improve the patient experience.

Caring for All Patients
Ascension Saint Thomas provides excellent care for every patient who walks through our doors. The Foundation is here to bridge the gap for those patients who do not have the financial resources to continue their care after leaving us offsetting the cost of durable medical equipment, prescription medications and care beyond the bedside.
- Healing at Home assisting patients with needs not covered by health insurance or for those with no insurance including medical equipment, dental care and long-term wellness programs.
- Prescription medication support ensuring those lacking financial resources are able to receive the medications they need to heal.
- Family Care Centers throughout Middle Tennessee serving as the medical home for thousands of low-income and uninsured patients and families.
Supporting Our Caregivers
The Foundation helps to meet the needs of those who work for our ministry; improving their lives and helping them realize their full potential as an individual and a caregiver. There are many ways the Foundation supports our own including emergency assistance, educational opportunities and trainings.
- Emergency Assistance with basic needs helping to offset household expenses and ease the burden felt by a temporary financial crisis.
- Scholarships helping caregivers reach their educational goals through a college degree.
- Continuing Education giving caregivers the opportunity to learn new skills expanding their expertise which improves the patient's experience.
Needs
Midtown Modernization is a $300 million project to complete clinical and capital improvements to modernize the campus by the end of 2023. Changes across our Midtown campus are designed by our physicians, caregivers and associates to offer an elevated experience. This investment will shape the future of healthcare in our Nashville community and Middle Tennessee. Ascension Saint Thomas will pilot state-of-the-art technology that will set the new standard for Ascension ministries nationally. The enhancements will distinguish our clinical development programs as technologically advanced. It will offer a unique approach to urban design that incorporates nature into our campus landscape. The designs will provide easier access to our campus with simplified parking and pedestrian access.

CEO Statement
The Ascension Saint Thomas Foundation exists to support Ascension Saint Thomas's mission and passion for excellence in patient care. In these current economic times, care beyond the bedside has become a higher priority for the Foundation, as patients with dire health needs are also facing significant financial distress. When a physician calls our office because a patient simply cannot afford the care they need, we can respond with immediate assistance. In addition, we can ensure this patient receives the further guidance and help by linking them with social workers and other community resources. Going above and beyond bedside care is a significant part of our healing ministry and is what makes the hospitals of Ascension Saint Thomas different. Through the Foundation, we match our mission with the interests of our donors, reaching out to patients and families, nurses and physicians to extend resources otherwise unavailable. It is an ideal model for healthcare: a partnership in which the hospital cares for the community, while the community cares for the hospital.
Board Chair Statement
The mission of the Ascension Saint Thomas Foundation is consistent with the overall mission of Ascension Saint Thomas. Ascension Saint Thomas is a broad, integrated hospital system stretching across Middle Tennessee where patients are treated with respect, dignity, and the highest standards of medicine. The core values of Ascension Saint Thomas create institutions with great reverence for those who need care - whether in an intensive care unit, emergency room, or hospice. Like all hospitals, Ascension Saint Thomas deals with the sick and dying on a daily basis. Ascension Saint Thomas's faith-based vision of care informs the way we instill hope in patients and offer compassion in the daily routines of medicine. This vision extends to every patient, regardless of circumstances, as we relieve the anxieties that come with illness and hospital stays. Ascension Saint Thomas believes its ability to support and comfort patients and families is as important as the world-class medical technologies it provides. Healing the sick and caring for those who cannot care for themselves is integral to the mission and vision of Ascension Saint Thomas and the Foundation. For patients, doctors, nurses, volunteer caregivers, and members of our communities, we believe our special approach to health care makes a profound difference.
