Mission

The mission of the Goodpasture Christian School faculty, staff, students, and parents is to collaborate and build relationships with Jesus, to pursue academic excellence, and to develop life skills to prepare students for Christian service to others.

Background

East Nashville Christian School opened in September of 1965. The school building had eighteen classrooms with a library, multipurpose room, and offices. In it's second year the school added grades seven and eight. Later, the school was formally named B.C. Goodpasture Christian School in honor of Mr. Goodpasture's outstanding contribution as a church leader, lecturer, and author. The addition of the high school was a part of the second building phase, opening in September of 1971 to include grades seven through eleven. During the years 1972-1982 many improvements took place including access and parking lots, an athletic field house and football stadium, enlargement of the gymnasium, a weight room, elementary playground, three tennis courts, junior high classrooms and a band room. Since 1982, a four classroom kindergarten was built. The high school library and the lunchroom were both enlarged. The junior high wing added six classrooms and offices for the principal, secretary, and guidance counselor and a junior high gym was added. The Fine Arts Building housing a 1,200-seat auditorium, the president's offices, and six classrooms for the three- and four-year old preschool students was completed in 1990. Beginning in the summer of 1996, the original elementary building was renovated with an expansion of the library, addition of classrooms and storage, and new heating and air conditioning units. In the summer of 1997 an addition was made containing space for grades five and six, a large choral music room with storage, additional preschool classrooms, and play area, rest rooms and a teacher's lounge. In 2000, a state-of-the-art field house containing a coach's office, a conference room, dressing rooms, weight room, a laundry, and storage area was built. Over the years, additions including a baseball field and clubhouse, softball field and softball field house, paved band practice area and improvements to the football practice field took place. August of 2013 saw the opening of Goodpasture's Great Beginnings Toddler Program serving children age 12 months through 36 months. Most recently a new soccer field has been completed, and the Parnell Athletic Center has opened containing the school store (The Cougar Corner), a lobby and entrance to the high school gym, and an upstairs meeting room. In 2022 classroom space was added to the High School building, and grades 6-8 are now located in one Middle School wing of the building.

Impact

Goodpasture Christian School is accredited by Cognia (formerly SACS), SAIS, and the NCSA (one of only a few schools in southeast with all three). Students are taught Spanish, STEM, robotics, art, music, technology, and PE (in addition to core subjects of reading, mathematics, social studies, science, and Bible). The class of 2021, consisting of 71 seniors, was offered over $13 million in college scholarships. Goodpasture students receive a premier educational experience, and in addition students learn the joy of giving through service. High School students participate in over 1000 hours of community service within the greater Nashville area, and our entire Goodpasture student body participates in an annual food drive that supplies food banks and church pantries in the Nashville area. At Goodpasture Christian School, we serve families who desire a premier Christian education for their children--building confidence, intellectual growth, and spiritual strength. Goodpasture Christian School will inspire students to have an eternal relationship with Jesus, equipping them with intellectual skills for a life of service to others.

Needs

Goodpasture Christian School: Most Pressing Needs include constructing facilities, updating programs, and hiring additional personnel to meet the demand generated from the rising demographics of the middle Tennessee area as it expands. Funds are needed for additions, renovations, and the soft costs associated with these improvements. Upcoming projects include updates in the Fine Arts Center and Athletic Weight Room, security updates, and additional personnel in the Learning Lab. The Learning Lab provides assistance for students with learning differences. Funds are needed to provide ongoing support for school operations and financial aid allowing more families the opportunity at a quality Christian education.

Board Chair Statement

I believe the work we do at Goodpasture Christian School is more needed than ever. Our students face challenges in an ever increasingly secular culture. Our students have more access to information than at any point in the history of man. However, all children need to know how to apply this knowledge and be given guidance on principles involving integrity, compassion and what our responsibilities are to our fellow man. Goodpasture strives to make a difference in each of our unique students' lives which is shown in a number of student success stories. One such story involves a young man named Keenan Reynolds who came to us from a humble and modest home. Keenan's parents insisted on him obtaining a high quality Christian education. Keenan was a successful student and athlete for Goodpasture and was educated at the highest level to become a leader. After graduating from Goodpasture, Keenan went on to enter the United States Naval Academy where he successfully studied to serve our country and fulfilled the role of their starting quarterback. Keenan has exceeded our expectation and those of his instructors at the Academy. He maintained a high GPA, set numerous NCAA football records and finished 5th in the Heisman Trophy balloting. One of our greatest successes as an institution is our ability to provide a great education for students and families at a tremendous value. One of our greatest struggles is to make this quality Christian education available to students and families who would otherwise not be able to afford this education.
