Mission

Our mission is to support, mentor and teach girls and young adult women to be poised, persistent, and prosperous through sophisticated and inspiring experiences. The Achiever Academy's main mission is to keep girls in school. Therefore, the Period Project Nashville facilitates the delivery of period products to girls through the Metro Nashville Public School system. We also hosts fine dining, networking and service experiences (Period Projects) that include leadership events and soft skills workshops focused on three outcomes: career success, community impact, and a prosperous life.

Background

We tackle issues that are obstacles for girls and young women when striving for success. We found that college women, especially minorities, had difficulties with climbing the corporate ladder and achieving personal and professional success. So we provide networking opportunities and soft skills workshops to bridge those gaps. We also know that period poverty is an issue that prevents economically disadvantaged girls from attending school and therefore host a number of period product drives each year as well as facilitate the process of period products to girls attending Metro Nashville Public Schools.

Impact

2018: Served over 400 girls and women through events and engagements including fine dining, networking and services experiences. Workshops facilitated included budgeting, body language, and goal setting and achieving. We hosted two period project events (March and May) and one city-wide period project donation drive to benefit Metro Nashville Public Schools in September 2018 which resulted in over 200,000 period products. 2019: Hosted a spring dinner and workshop named 'Life After College' for college students preparing to graduate. It was well attended and presenters included a real estate agent and financial experts. In regard to the period project, MNPS accepted hundreds of packages from individuals and groups in the community. We also facilitated the delivery of another 200,000 products from Healing Hands, International. Hosted a school wide jamboree at Jere Baxter Middle School to teach 150 female students about period health. 2020 installed two period pad dispensers in two female restrooms at Jere Baxter middle school in Nashville, TN.

Needs

The Achiever Academy needs professional women who would like to serve as mentors to college-aged women. We also need free access to locations for our events and workshops. Of most importance, we are seeking support for our period project initiatives to keep girls in school during their period. More details can be found on our website at theachiever.me.
