Mission

Tennessee Primary Care Association improves access to primary health care through leadership, advocacy, and support, as the voice of community health centers.

Background

Founded in 1976, the Tennessee Primary Care Association is a not-for-profit service organization working on behalf of Tennessee Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and other safety net providers to improve access to care through leadership, advocacy, and support. TPCA provides technical assistance and training services that builds the capacity of health center staffs to delivery quality care. Its work in the delivery of support to health centers in rural and under-served areas has resulted in new sites, expanded services, and the transformation of health care delivery to patient centered medical homes. TPCA has a track record of leading and participating in both state and national efforts that increase access to quality primary health care to Tennesseans, particularly those living in rural and under-served communities.

Impact

Assisting the health centers in implementing data aggregation/analytics and population health management tools. Supporting health centers in achieving Patient Centered Medical Home recognition or certification (none with recognition in January 2013 and 67% now have recognition and/or certification).

Needs

TPCA Needs: In order to better support health centers, TPCA needs greater infrastructure to operate more efficiently in the rapidly changing health care environment: 1.) the addition of specific staff (Operations Director and a Program Evaluator); 2.) the addition of an External Affairs program; and 2.) increased unrestricted funding to sustain programming.
