Mission

Transitional Housing & Work Programs of Davidson County Inc. (THWP) is a non-profit organization that serves to provide two of the most basic community needs: Affordable housing & work.

Background

Perhaps one of the most significant battles that America has to address is the growing number of individuals suffering with mental illnesse/ Substance abuse issues. . Substance abuse along with Mental Health disorders has become common place in the United States. An estimated 26.2 percent of Americans ages 18 and older -about one in four adults - suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year. In addition, mental health disorders are the leading cause of disability in the United States. It is also estimated 23.9 million americans age 12 or older or 9.2 percent of the population has used or abused illicit or psychotherapeutic medication. The vast majority of individuals with mental disorders and substance abuse attempt to function in their daily lives, often with varying impairments. Since 2008 Transitional Housing & Work Programs of Davidson Co. Inc. (THWP) has been dedicated to serving individuals in this population. To date, THWP has assisted over 500 clients in the Middle Tennessee area.THWP is a faith-based non-profit agency founded by Keith & Nichole Mason that works with individuals living with substance abuse/ mental health disorders. The primary goal of THWP is to provide safe and structured housing with case management and life skills development training. THWP is committed to fostering an assisted support approach for our clients that promotes psycho-social development and daily life-care skills in addition to employment training. Specifically, program efforts include financial literacy training, computer competency instruction, medication management support and a host of daily home maintenance proficiencies. Our principal aim is to create and implement programs that provide vision and hope to help counter the social stigma so often associated with individuals living with mental health disorders. Overall, THWP programs serves and strengthens their residents by offering a sense of hope and belonging.

Impact

THWP has formed relationships with local health care practices and agencies to serve our community, including Vanderbuilt, Parthenon & Middle Tennessee Mental Health Institute. THWP provides treatment and partial hospitalization programs for our clients through Legacy Treatment located at THWPs fundrasing facility located at 109 Cude Lane in Madison Tn. THWP also provided affordable housing for clients transitioning our of our 30 or 60 day programs. Annually THWP provided housing and supportive services to over 120 people living with mental health disorders and Substance abuse in the Middle Tennessee area.

'The Vision' 'THWP primary purpose is to provide structured housing, however the second portion of the program is to provide a jobs to individuals that sometimes face tough challenges in finding traditional employment. This is what makes us very unique as a direct care provider' Keith L. Mason CEO
