Mission

For Nashville's unhoused and socially displaced Community Care Fellowship is home. It is a safe place where one can find a friendly face, a meal, a shower, someone to talk to, medicine, a place to clean up and regroup. It is a place that empowers the weary and offers hope for a better tomorrow.

Everyone who enters the door at CCF is treated with dignity and respect. Whether a guest is seeking a shower, a meal, or just somewhere to rest their head, we meet their basic needs no questions asked. From there we have the opportunity to build a relationship and guide them towards transformation.

The mission of Community Care Fellowship is Serving Christ by offering hope, love and resources to our neighbors experiencing housing insecurity.

Background

Community Care Fellowship began through the vision and efforts of Rev. Rock Hardaway and Ken and Carol Powers of McKendree United Methodist Church 41 years ago. CCF provides a place that meets the spiritual, physical, and emotional needs of the city's homeless and socially displaced population and has always been affectionately known as "Ken & Carol's" - a nod to the people who so selflessly gave of their time, energy, and love. Our principal stabilizing services include meals, showers, laundry, hygiene, mail, pastoral counseling, mental health services, and housing
navigation. Our transformational programs create a path of self-sufficiency through our Career Counseling and Rapid Rehousing Program. CCF partners with a two social enterprise, RESERA
(www.becomeunlocked.com), which employs unhoused or socially displaced female guests to make jewelry, while earning a living wage. Guests are also eligible for a minimum of six months of housing assistance from CCF in partnership with Urban Housing Solutions. Other wrap around services including career and mental health counseling. Our partner Big AL Mowing LLC. will employee male and female unhoused and socially displaced guests with the opportunity for growth in the company. CCF will provide wrap around services.

The Dare To Dream Child Development Center includes a parental counseling component, teaching parents how to be their child's educational advocate. By structuring the program to empower both children and parents, we are laying a foundation for future educational success. This holistic approach empowers children to be successful in school and, through education, break the cycle of poverty.

Mobile Housing Navigation Center (MHNC) is a collective impact initiative with nonprofit partners, Metropolitan government, and partner congregations to provide temporary housing for our neighbors experiencing homelessness throughout the Nashville area, including those in encampments. Metro Homeless Impact Division utilizes Coordinated Entry to provide hyper-local referrals off the By Name List to enter into the MHNC. The MHNC provides temporary housing for individuals for up to 90 days with a goal of connecting each with a goal of connecting each guest with income, addiction and mental health services, permanent housing, and a strong network of support from members of local churches. Our hope is
that the MHNC's will help congregations develop a new missional understanding of the church and provide opportunities.

Impact

CCF continually evaluates its impact on our community. Beyond meeting the immediate needs of our guests who are experiencing homelessness, we are committed to initiatives that result in transforming individuals' lives and our community as a whole.

Our Dare To Dream Child Development Center launched in June 2019 and is the only preschool program connected to the James Cayce public housing neighborhood. Access to affordable childcare is one of the biggest barriers to steady employment for our immediate neighbors, and we are meeting that need while simultaneously equipping children with the skills they need to be kindergarten-ready. By structuring the program to empower both child and parent we are laying a foundation for future educational success.

Our Pathways Program launched in April 2019. In the Pathways Program, CCF partners with two social enterprises to secure gainful employment for men and women. UNLOCKED (www.unlockednashville.com) employs female guests transitioning out of homelessness to make jewelry, while earning a living wage. Each guest attends financial training that includes saving, budgeting, and goal setting. Guests are also eligible for a minimum of six months of housing assistance from CCF. In 2020 we partnered with Big AL Mowing to employee both men and women. CCF offers housing through our master lease program with Urban Housing Solutions for guests stably employed with Big AL as well as case management and other wrap around services.

In March 2020, CCF launched the Mobile Navigation Center focused on providing non congregated shelter for the most vulnerable individuals experiencing homelessness in the Davidson County Area. The Mobile Navigation Center is part of CCF's Rapid ReHousing Strategy. The board of directors is committed to a three-year strategic plan that addresses CCF's needs for fundraising, additional board membership and goals for the ministry.

Our four established goals are:
1) Enrich services for adults to provide opportunities for transformational change;
2) Expand programs for children and youth;
3) Sustain our mission by increasing diversity of funding sources; and
4) Develop the organization by expanding the Board of Directors, evaluate and change staff structure to meet goals and expand operational infrastructure.
The full strategic plan is available upon request.

CEO Statement

The ministry of Community Care Fellowship is to offer dignity and a sense of value to individuals who are often not seen by the larger society. When a person lives on the streets, they are not truly visible as distinct individuals with families and other important relationships. We offer a place where they can be known, valued, and respected. Through our many services, we provide for a place of sanctuary, rest and transformation. Here we learn how to be a community. Here we become more than any one individual. Here we are all children of God.

Board Chair Statement

I first became involved with Community Care Fellowship when our Sunday School class prepared and served a meal on Sunday. My family got a warm, fuzzy feeling as we dished food that we had prepared into take-out containers for families that came through the doors of CCF after the church service. I helped with Sunday meals a few more times and kept thinking that I could or should do more. One Sunday, Rev. Pat (the Executive Director at CCF at the time), came and spoke to our church. That inkling that I had had about what more I could/should do at CCF became a full-fledged desire. I contacted CCF about other volunteer opportunities. They needed someone to help serve lunch on the third Thursday of the month. I volunteered. On the days that I flew out of my office in Green Hills to go serve lunch at CCF became the days that meant the most to me. I would leave me office knowing that I had so many tasks to do but yet my calendar showed that I was to serve lunch at CCF that day. I always enjoyed serving the desserts (who doesn't like pie, cake, or cookies!). After serving lunch and on my way back to work, I always felt that I had been more blessed by getting to talk with our guests and hear about their days than having blessed them by providing a meal. Never once did I think to myself that I wished I had stayed at work instead of going to serve lunch at CCF. I was asked to be on the Board at CCF shortly after that. Serving on the Board provided more opportunities to stay involved and learn more about the mission and services of CCF. CCF providing our guests the ability to do their laundry and to take a hot shower are just two of the many services that we provide. Our after school program that helps the children to master certain skills is so very necessary to helping these children to excel at school. My love of CCF and its many services that it provides to the community, the guests, and the children continues to grow as we further our mission.
