Mission

Mission:

To prepare students to excel academically and personally to improve their quality of life.

Vision

To foster a society of lifelong learners and productive citizens that succeed in school and life.

Background

For 20 years, the Education Equal Opportunity Group, EEOG's mission is to prepare students to excel academically and personally to improve their quality of life. Unwavering support from donors and with 500 volunteers each year have made the EEOG a leader among nonprofit organizations.

To succeed in school and life, students need ongoing opportunities to learn and practice essential skills. Founded in 2001, EEOG has helped more than 20,000 students increase their knowledge base in areas of personal finance, leadership development, and self-efficacy by exposing them to trendsetters that they can emulate.

It's not enough! We need your financial investment to continue our positive impact. With your monetary gift, we can serve more youth. As a champion for at-risk students, delivering a local impact, our core focus is to prepare emerging student leaders to think big, adapt to change, and act decisively in any environment. Our purpose is to assist 9th-12th grade students to become first-generation high school and college graduates.

Our five core programs include: 1) Project Save-A-Student Leadership and Training Conference; 2) Career Speed Networking Program; 3) Educational Speaker Series; 4) Summer Enrichment and Technology, and 5) Leaders Are Readers Program (LARP).

George Thomas', Founder of EEOG, simply stated vision mission concept is to make plain to students the learnings of skills and knowledge practical and applicable to inside and outside classroom environments, so as to lead the student to success.

Needs

In Tennessee, one-third of public high school students drop out of school and 50% of African Americans, Hispanics, and Native Americans fail to graduate. Every year more than 1.2 million students drop out of high school in the United States alone. (Add Ref: https://www.dosomething.org/us/facts/11-facts-about-high-school-dropout-rates) This means that every 26 seconds a student will drop out or 7,000 students per day! (Add Ref: https://www.dosomething.org/us/facts/11-facts-about-high-school-dropout-rates) Furthermore, minority students drop out of school at a disproportionately higher rate than their white counterparts (4.8% Blacks and 5.8% Hispanics between the ages of 15-24 dropped out in 2009 compared with 2.4% Whites). (Add Ref: Snyder, T.D., and Dillow, S.A. (2013). The dropout rate for low-income students was also 5X greater than their high-income counterparts (7.4% vs. 1.4%). Regardless of the social or economic background, high school students must have the knowledge to understand and handle the complex issues that they will face after high school. In Tennessee, we have far too many students who are ill-prepared.
