Mission

House of Agape's purpose is to empower males recently released from local, state, and federal prison systems. House of Agape will decrease the recidivism rate by providing participants with housing, counseling, employment and training opportunities to prevent the return to the corrections system. The participants will become productive members in the city, re-unite with families and build the community.

Background

The House of Agape was established out of a dream to assist males overcome challenges including homelessness, substance abuse, poor self esteem, anger issues and the separation from family and the society these challenges can sometimes present.

Impact

The House of Agape is proud of its accomplishment of being a part of the Giving Matters network. House of Agape is a non-profit organization designed to provide services to men who have recently been released from the criminal justice system who are at risk for re-entry due to alcohol or drug abuse use and homelessness. House of Agape seeks to provide hope and support services to the targeted population and reduce recidivism in Davidson County. House of Agape has held fundraising events such as a roof-top reception to announce the program as well as an old fashioned fish fry.

Needs

1. Secure funding of $150,000.00 to fully implement the program2. Secure minimal of a 4 bedroom facility with office space and conference room for support group meetings3. Staff and volunteers4. Furniture and personal care supplies 5. Volunteers

CEO Statement

Having a personal challenge with substance abuse, a background of homelessness a similar program such as this one provided me with the basic fundamental support and skills to lead a productive life and regain the right to vote, obtain a meaningful job and re-engage with my family and the community. Second chances as the one I experienced is what I want to offer other men through the programs at House of Agape. The support of full service one-stop housing programs can help men live in sober communities, achieve self-sufficiency and establishes him in his family and the community to be the leader Tennessee can be proud of.

Board Chair Statement

The major challenge has been raising funds to purchase or rent a house in order to implement the services proposed by this initiative. The organization has a hardworking, committed and dedicated group of board members, volunteers and supporters who are willing and able to provide the leadership and oversight for a successful sober living housing program for its participants.
