Mission

A HOME FOR THE HOMELESS; A VOICE FOR THE VOICELESS
Rescuing the bottom 10%.

Our mission is to rescue unwanted animals and offer care through our Noah's Ark Society foster families, to offer pet placement programs, to educate this generation and future generation about the necessity of spay and neutering, to offer wildlife rehabilitation and reintroduction, and finally to become a voice in animal cruelty legislation.

Background

It all started with two lost dogs. Zero resources. Full of empathy and hope. We found our passion in a community of like-minded individuals, and stumbled upon a need in our community far too often left unaddressed. There's been plenty of hard work, no big paychecks, but giving a voice to the voiceless pays us back twofold in our hearts. Loss may have begun our journey, but what we gain from fulfilling our purpose cannot be bought. We are the Noah's Ark Society

Today, Noah's Ark Society is an organization of social entrepreneurs with a mission: a home for the homeless, a voice for the voiceless. We successfully operate an animal rescue that responds to emergencies, rescues hurt and vulnerable animals, provides recovery and rehabilitation, and rehomes responsibly. We focus on special needs animals, the most at risk.

Impact

We've had great success in 2019.

1. Rescue: We rescued special needs dogs/cats/horses and made sure they got proper medical attention. These predominantly included animals at the highest risk of euthanasia due to age, health, breed, etc. We also focused on rescuing litters of puppies

2. Grants: We submitted more grants last year than previous years, and we did receive 3 to help spay/neuter a feral colony as well as other kitty cats that have been misplaced.

3. Our Noah's Ark Society Center: With the expanded location and hours, we offer more FREE educational classes to help new families. We hold special adoption events for NAS foster animals, as well as other local rescues.

4. Music 4 Animals: We bring like-minded individuals together, listen to great music, sample the city's wonderful cuisine, and learn about how our community can help control the pet population. The artists help us fund raise for vetting costs, help us educate about what we do, & help with major gifts.

5. Our Elder Society has grown in the past 2 years. Last year alone we brought in 10 seniors.

Our goals for 2020 include:

1. This year we will double our attempts to submit more grants to help us save more special need pets, with the goal to increase the number of adoptions per month. One grant that is very important is the Petsmart grant, which will get us enough money to purchase a used adoption van. We can then attend more adoption events, help with transporting animals to Pet Community Center for low cost spay/neuter. This will also give us the opportunity to help in an emergency situation where animals have been misplaced.

2. Golf Outing: We are hoping to rally Vince Gill, Darious Rucker, & Justin Timberlake to help set up our annual golf outing at Vanderbilt County Club. This would help us with the misfits that need our help. This outing would also help to secure our capital campaign, where we will be opening an all-animal sanctuary.

3. Outreach programs: We will start an assisted living program, taking our elder society pets to get some much needed love, continue TNR (trap, neuter, return), have our Brentwood High School Club take a field trip to local shelters to walk dogs and play with kitties. We will also take them to the pig sanctuary to learn about how amazing pigs are.

4. Capital Campaign: We are preparing for our capital campaign. This will enable us to raise funds for our wellness sanctuary, so that more special needs animals can be rescued.

5. Gayle's House: We have a house that was left with cats inside and out when the owner died. We are working with a relative to finish vetting and finding homes for the inside cats, as well as doing a TNR program for the outside cats. Eventually, we will be able to use the home to rehabilitate other cats in need.

Needs

Volunteer needs:

1. Love to work with the public? Our Retail and Rescue Center is always looking for volunteers to help in the retail end, or come and hang with the animals that are spending the day with us.
2. Marketing/Social Media: We all know social media is the way to get you noticed. If you like social media/marketing this could be right up your alley.
3. Website developer: keeping the website fresh
4. Networking: Success stories is great way to get everyone updated. Love to write? Become our Blogger.
5. Foster families: provide homes for infant animals, sick or recovering animals, those being treated for medical conditions, or behavioral issues, as well as many other situations. Foster care can also be a home to place an animal for a day or two while a more permanent home can be found.
6. Transport: Help with transporting animals to/from events, vets, shelters etc
7. Sponsors for our Non Profit Retail shop: Looking for individuals who will donate our operating expenses for Noah's Ark Society Center. Each location expenses are $3000. No employee salaries. Volunteer Run! All the proceeds are benefiting the animals in our care!

CEO Statement

Why I Rescue , by Lori Elam
My personal passions are found in family, friends, nature, and, of course, animals. Animals are a very significant part of my life, and have been since I was a child. My animal rescue roots, however, didn't begin until I moved to Nashville. Two weeks after I had made the move to Nashville from Ohio, I lost both of my dogs, Mandy and Meisha. Fortunately, we were able to recover Meisha, but could never find Mandy--who was my baby! Although losing Mandy was one of the worst situations that I have ever been faced with, it did lead me to a wonderful world of animal rescuers. Almost instantly I knew that I had found my calling: animal rescue! In my search to recover Mandy, I met a lot of selfless individuals who generously give both their time and money to help save the cast-offs of human society. Together, with a group of these amazing people I had met, we decided we could best contribute to the welfare of the unwanted animals by starting an organization called Nashville Animal Rescue Co-Op. This group strived to collect and distribute donations to the small and struggling pet-rescue organizations, which were often run by a single individual whose time and energy were so devoted to helping the animals that she/he often had no resources left to campaign for funds themselves. Since its inception, Nashville Animal Rescue Co-Op has evolved into Noah's Ark Society, which still strives to unite the struggling small rescue organizations. We have set our sights on much broader goals, such as a community of no more homeless pets. Since 2011, we have saved countless animals, including dogs/puppies, cat/kittens, horses, hamsters, pigs, and birds, from being euthanized, in addition to saving animals from living in despicable and deplorable conditions. Although I am visited every day by the painful memory of losing Mandy, I am also comforted knowing that because of her, I have been able to help hundreds of animals find the lives that they all deserve.
