Mission

The mission of The Estuary is to advocate a conscious and balanced life through self-discovery, relationships, education and Integrated Healing and to provide a venue for the process of healing to occur.

Background

In 1991, Susan Austin-Crumpton shifted her focus from running her family business to pursuing her passion as a healer. With a degree in counseling psychology and several years spent in social work, she returned to her heart's passion of healing others. She began 4 years of study in healing science at The Barbara Brennan School of Healing Science, then spent 4 subsequent years studying Integrative Kabbalistic Healing with Jason Shulman's 'A Society of Souls.' As she completed these programs, so began the growth of an organization that we today call The Estuary. She set up her integrative counseling center on Portland Place in Nashville. Born from those client sessions was the idea to form groups that became the early iterations of what is now The School of Healing Arts. Over the years, Susan has come in contact with many clients, students and other therapists who have learned from her and share her philosophy in the healing arts. With each of these connections, she has added staff members to The Estuary, watching it become the integrative counseling center as it stands today. The healing techniques and counseling skills taught by Susan have been integrated into the school and into the individual practices of the staff at The Estuary. The Estuary staff's intention to be fully present and alive with passion and joy requires an authenticity that is our hallmark. Dedication to study and commitment to our clients provides them with purpose and meaning not often found in traditional practices. We combine the techniques of energy healing and psychology with Kabbalistic principles into our psychotherapy techniques that bring lasting change into the lives of our clients and originate outside the medical and psychological mainstream. They are truly complimentary to allopathic medicine and traditional psychotherapy, not in conflict with them, as is evidenced by the community support over the years. As the Estuary grew, it's positive impact on those clients suffering with chronic illness became apparent. From this grew our program to partner with those clients and make a difference in their journey to health by offering them discounted services while they are undergoing traditional medical treatments. The Estuary provides several venues for clients to learn to make choices that bring their conscious evolution to spiritual wholeness. Venues include spiritual worship services, classes, workshops, counseling sessions, and courses of study at The School of Healing Arts.

Impact

Accomplishments in 2022:
6,625 hours of individual counseling and coaching was provided to clients at The Estuary. This is more than 1,100 hours more and a 17% increase over 2021.
62 Students attended classes at The School of Healing Arts
161 hours of treatment was provided to chronically ill clients at a free or reduced fee.
22 students graduated from The School of Healing Arts programs of study.

Goals for 2023:
Increased ability to offer community groups and classes and increased community participation
Broaden our outreach activities to increase community awareness.
Expand our services offered through addition of new staff and new levels of expertise.

Needs

We have witnessed how our energy therapy promotes healing and increases immunity in chronically ill clients. Additional funding could expand our holistic health program that offers free and reduced prices to chronically ill clients. Additional financial resources would allow more targeted marketing to medical providers and treatment centers to raise awareness of our program that offers free and reduced price services to the chronically ill population. Additional resources to use for increased marketing are needed to build awareness about The Estuary in the community.

CEO Statement

We are so thankful as we close the year and continue doing the healing work that I love. I see our organization changing before my very eyes each year as we all become better at what we do as counselors, healers, and lifelong students. This year we have celebrated so many successes with our clients, families, and students and it is so rewarding to see each and every one of these people live their lives in a new way as they develop themselves and work hard to uncover the and become best version of themselves. When our clients reach and grow, we also reach and grow with them as we realize new successes in the work that we do. We have also shed tears with and held hands of several individuals and their families as they make their journey into their next lives. This has become a specialty of mine and I am honored to witness this journey alongside families working through the death and dying process. There is much to work through as this process unfolds and I have witnessed the beauty of love and true presence as I assist families through their emotions, pain and healing. As humans, we cannot avoid death but what I can do is assist families through this process in the best way possible so they can continue to live their lives in peace after their loved ones move on. I feel privileged to work with a staff that is so committed to helping each and every client that walks through our doors to the best of their ability. We are a true family at The Estuary and we make time to learn from each other's strengths. We look forward to this year to continuing our work with our current clients and students, and welcoming new clients into our community. Warmly, Susan Austin-Crumpton
