Description
Project Transformation's eight-week summer program operates Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm at three sites in Davidson County. Highlights for children (grades 1-6) include a daily reading program, nutritious meals, and enriching art and wellness activities. Our youth program (grades 6-9) focus on team-building and leadership development, book clubs, and service projects. Project Transformation also recognizes the importance of educating tomorrow's leaders to be principled and community-oriented. Summer internship experiences are offered for young adults who are interested in hands-on service to the community. During their term of service, interns participate in on-going training and regular meetings with community and civic leaders to examine different careers in community service. The interns, in turn, are the key providing health, academic, and recreational enrichment for underserved children.

Description
Our afterschool program deepens the impact of our summer program by connecting the potential of underserved children with the positive mentorship of college-age young adults. The program, for children grades 1-8, will focus on enriching mind and body with an emphasis on literacy, similar to our existing summer program. Children will participate in daily enrichment activities, including homework assistance, art enrichment, science and math exploration, healthy decision-making, and nutritional education. Through pre-assessments and collaboration with children's schools, PT will identify specific opportunities for each child's literacy growth. Daily activities will aim to address any deficiencies, while building a love for reading and desire to be life-long learners.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

What inspires me is what we at Project Transformation like to call the three Cs.Children: Our summer and afterschool programs serve children who live in under-resourced neighborhoods by providing literacy and holistic programming to engage the mind, body and spirit.College Students: Planning and leading these programs are our talented college interns, who serve as mentors and role models to our children. All the while, they are developing as principled faith leaders and exploring various ministry-related vocations.Churches: We partner strategically with churches in changing neighborhoods to provide safe spaces to cement new relationships that invest both in our young people and our community. The beautiful thing about Project Transformation is that it brings together all three of these unique challenges into one multi-dimensional ministry. Three challenges. One solution.
