Description
Antiracist Teaching, Learning, & Leading in the Classroom is a panel Workshop series where teachers work with local and national thought-leaders to co-create culturally responsive classrooms that support ALL learners.

The work of undoing the harm of both systemic racism and white supremacy is challenging. It can be a life-long journey. This work requires engagement beyond a single lesson plan or newscycle, and EdCo's Antiracist Teaching Panels help make that commitment possible.

Our panels provide teachers with the vocabulary, history, and perspectives of experienced leaders who have been doing the work. These panels-and their subsequent partnerships-help ensure this work can grow into better practices for all school settings - public, private, and charter.

Description
In the EdCo Summer Workshop, two cohorts totaling 64 teachers are chosen to participate in workshops and activities to learn best practices in teaching, learning, collaboration, and support. They spend a week collaborating with other educators from all over the state and learn methods to help them better serve their students. These lessons are then brought back to each teacher's home schools and districts, impacting nearly 20,000 students across the state.

Activities include analyzing lesson plans, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) integration, Design Thinking workshops, and more. The Summer Workshop facilitates and moderates collaboration among teachers, allowing them to explore their own areas of growth by providing the systems and protocols to explore those needs.

While some of our goals are reached simply through the way this project is structured, we will also evaluate the success of our project through the qualitative study of pre and post collective surveys developed by our data team. There will also be quantitative data around the number of participants, the school districts they serve, and the number of students reached through their participation.

Once the summer workshop is over, we enter the second phase of the Cooperative. Cooperative teachers share resources, provide professional support and problem solving, and share experiences and best practices in teaching and learning in a private online workspace, as well as at our monthly meetings hosted by schools in neighborhoods all over Nashville. Our monthly meetings are a mix of sharing the latest from our classrooms, following up on our online conversations, asking for help, support, or resources, and school visits. They provide a rare opportunity to see schools all over the city - the classrooms, faculty lounges, libraries, labs, and student work spaces all offer a great deal of information and new ideas.
