Description
We provide mediation for participants in civil cases who may or may not have attorney support. This allows people to create resolutions that satisfy the needs of both parties without court-imposed, punitive judgement. Most of these are landlord-tenant cases, where mediation plays a significant role in helping to stabilize tenancy and meet landlord needs.

Description
We provide restorative mediation for adults referred by the District Attorney's Warrant Screening Office, from Metro Nashville Police, and from public housing (MDHA) communities. These are cases that involve conflict that has usually escalated to violence. Through mediation, victims have an opportunity to share how the crisis impacted them, while the accused have an opportunity to accept responsibility for what occurred and work together with the victims to develop a plan to repair harm done. We also provide restorative mediation for residents of public housing communities involved in neighborhood disputes. Mediation provides participants a means of de-escalating conflict, preventing violence, and preventing eviction and homelessness. In addition to free mediation services, NCRC provides a range of conflict management workshops in communities that experience a disproportionately high rate of violence.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

In the current year (2023), NCRC is receiving increased referrals for mediation from Civil (General Sessions) and Juvenile Courts throughout Middle Tennessee. Our delivery model has shifted to include remote mediation (by video or phone conferencing) as well as in-person services. Remote mediation is a remarkable gift to our target service population; however, it is more expensive for us to provide services, because we must provide regular technical assistance for our volunteers. Given this shift and increased referrals, we have initiating a new strategic planning process and have created an Advancement Plan to focus on fundraising.
