Description
The primary mission of Tennessee's EMSC program is to enhance our capability as a state to care for childhood emergencies. During an assessment of current pediatric transport trends in TN, it became evident that most EMS agencies did not have safe transport devices for pediatric patients. Car seats were not designed, and are not encouraged, to be used in the back of an ambulance since they have not been safety tested for this use (NASEMSO, 2017). It is even less safe to be held by an adult during transport. Therefore, having a pediatric safety transport device will allow a provider to safely secure a patient over 4 pounds onto any stretcher. Having a safety transport device will allow the provider to use both hands to care for the child during long commutes. Children's Emergency Care Alliance has undergone a project to outfit every ambulance in Tennessee with a pediatric safety transport device.
Program Successes
Each EMS person is trained on the proper usage of a pediatric transport safety device and it is utilized for every patient that does not fit properly with the stretcher's straps.
Beneficiaries
Children and Youth (0 - 19 years)
Long-term Success
Every ambulance in TN will have a pediatric safety transport device and EMS personnel are fully trained on how to use the device.

The program presents the life saving scenarios and reunites the EMS caregivers with the individuals they saved from eight EMS regions across the state.
