COOP offers 2-4 internship opportunities a year. Interns work directly with COOP artists to learn how a gallery is managed; how exhibitions are curated, installed and promoted; and how a diverse schedule of programming is planned and coordinated. Interns also work on social media and print materials for the gallery. Each intern works directly with a COOP Artist mentor in developing, curating, and executing an exhibition or project of their own design.

We host Nashville Artists Drink Beverages (NADB), an open invitation to creatives to gather and share presentations on their art practice. NADB meets monthly and for special events.. Additionally, we offer workshops in which member-artists offered hands-on sessions on media, free & open to the public, including printmaking and painting workshops. COOP hosts opening receptions, outdoor fire pits, and BBQs during Nashville's Art Crawls. Lastly, we aim to expand the impact of all our exhibits through supplemental coverage including written content and the possibilities of podcasts, radio broadcasts, visiting artists to local schools, etc. This offers more visibility to our artists and the gallery while also broadening access and dialogue.

COOP curates and invites artists from around the country to visit Nashville and mount a solo or group exhibition of challenging contemporary visual art. We provide each artist with a small honorarium and material assistance in creating their exhibition. We provide each artist an online as well as brick and mortar platform to speak about their work and address our Nashville community. COOP creates a dialogue between Nashville and art scenes across the country by inviting artists to exhibit, develop projects, and interact with the Nashville community. COOP presents artists of diverse media, content, and backgrounds in a non-commercial space.
Program Successes
In 2022, COOP was honored by the Nashville Scene as the "Best Gallery Upgrade." We are grateful for the recognition of our excellent exhibition record and the challenges that come with moving to a larger exhibition space.

COOP has reached its 12th anniversary and has mounted some 150 exhibitions giving platform to an excellent and wide range of artists, artworks and artistic approaches. Many of COOP exhibit's have been written about in the Nashville Scene and The Tennessean, and the gallery likewise has been recognized in several of Nashville Scene's "Best of Nashville" awards.
Short-term Success
Generally, COOP exhibits are on view for one month with an Opening Reception in tandem with Nashville's First Saturday Art Crawl. These evenings usually see attendance by 500+ people of a wide range of ages, race and ethnicities, and backgrounds.
Program Success Monitored By
COOP monitors the success of the Exhibition Program in several ways. The response of member-artists and the Nashville art community is considered via verbal conversations, postings on social media, online blogs & media as well as publicity and coverage generated in publications. We also get feedback in subtle forms of COOP's general reputation as a provider of excellent artistic content. The response to COOP's annual Open Call (national artists submitting applications to exhibit with COOP) as well as public support via fundraisers are all markers of our program successes.

COOP develops 1-2 exchanges per year, each culminating in an exhibition at both COOP and the participating spaces. In the last five years, COOP has partnered with Clark House Initiative in Bombay, India; Atlanta Contemporary; Creative Cukurcama in Istanbul; Napoleon Gallery in Philadelpia; and Punch and Judy Gallery in Seattle. Each summer, COOP offers their exhibition space to other alternative artist galleries, collectives, and/or curators to come to Nashville and exhibit their artists and explain their missions. This program has been an essential way for creating a network among the diverse and far flung alternative art spaces outside of major urban centers in the United States.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
| COOP has big dreams for Nashville's art community and for helping to strengthen Nashville's ties to the art scene nationwide. Our goals include increasing our artist stipends, expand our exhibiting artists opportunities to include bringing them to Nashville to give talks, workshops at local venues, and to meet with artists, students, and community members. We moved to a larger space in 2022, giving us more space for in-person workshops, lectures, and meetings with artists. To strengthen Nashville's ties to the international scale, we want to dedicate at least one show a year to an international artist or artist collective, accounting for travel and/or shipping costs. In 2022, COOP reestablished its internship program, training university students in gallery exhibitions and nonprofit arts organizational skills. We are increasing our fundraising and grant writing efforts and seeking out more opportunities to collaborate with local and national arts organizations. |
