Budget
$7,000.00
Description
Implemented September 2022- The Save our youth program is where we are encouraging our youth who are raised by single parents, the get involved in volunteering. When we do events, such as feeding, volunteering at the center, or encouraging other young people to get involved with volunteering, they gain points. At the end of the year, they are eligible to get school supplies or dorm supplies for college.

The young people are mentored while serving the homeless and less fortunate on the effects of drugs and the consequences of not completing school. They see firsthand the results of runaways and those involved with crime.

We have had the youth helping during our events for many years but have now created a program to reward them, not just with a letter for college but supplies to help them in the future.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

Our greatest challenge is to find the resources to meet the needs of our clients. The needs are overwhelming at times when there are families with children. We have seen women that are ex-offenders who live in hotels, with jobs, yet who are unable to find housing that would accept them because of their past. Our clients pay $200 a week to maintain a minimal shelter with no cooking facility. Some have children who have never seen a balanced meal. Some are even escaping from situations involving domestic violence. Many women released from jail, are let go with only the clothes on their back. Many have lost their homes while incarcerated and are now left to re-enter society with nothing, no job, no clothing, no hope. Housing in Nashville is a challenge now for the working lower - middle class. We are finding more working families having difficulty finding affordable housing.
