CAAN has been hosting monthly Chinese film discussion online events since May in 2020. Each month we select an unique Asian film to watch, and then meet online on Zoom to discuss the film on last Tusday of every month at 7 PM (central time)
This event allows us to discuss and learn further deeper about Chinese culture and arts. It is also a mean to continue to connect our community during COVID 19.
FILM & DISCUSSION monthly is free to all. Everyone is welcome.

We have been viewing films made in the US, China, Taiwan, and Russia. The topic of the films are mostly associated with Chinese heritage, culture, tradition, history and arts.
Our attendees ranged from Asians, Asian Americans, African Americans, and Caucasians. We take advantage the films to further understand and discuss Chinese or Chinese American related issues, and stories.
We welcome people with all heritages and ages to join us to allow us to view the films from multiple perspectives.

Chinese Arts Alliance has hosted a series of virtual arts and cultural programs for the public, especially for families with children, people of color, people with different abilities and people who live remotely.
We presented asynchronous online program through CAAN's Youtube channel. This is a series of videos teaching people to do art craft projects on a Chinese cultural theme. One video has been released almost every month since June 2020 .
The merit of published at the CAAN's YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLanwx_B0DZ7xDUtUvQlkzg) allows audience to watch at any time and at the pace they choose. And it will be there permanently.
CAAN will continue to produce and publish to share the Chinese culture and arts through hand-on art making process.
The activities are free to all. All are welcome, especially for families, students and teachers.

Description
"Dance Nashville" is a community group formed by Chinese language teachers, parents and friends. This is a Chinese dancing group established in April 2018. The coordinator is Lizung Lin, artistic director/choreographer is Jen-Jen Lin.
This dancing group rehearsed weekly even during the Pandemic due to COVID 19. The group plays important role at the Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville' annual Chinese New Year Celebration, and also has performed arts and cultural event in the middle Tennessee.
Program Successes
Dance Nashville has been performing at the annual Celebrate of Nashville, International Women's Day Celebration in Nashville, Celebration of Nations in Franklin, Asian Culture Festival in Knoxville, Discovery Center at Murfreesboro, and Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville's own annual Chinese New Year Celebration.

'Chinese New Year Celebration at Hillsboro Village' was established in 2016. Since then we have steadily growth on participation. A rippling 60-foot dragon parades through Hillsboro Village and lion dancers perform made the high point of the celebration. There is more: professional jugglers mingle with the crowd, Chinese calligraphy will be water "painted" on the walkways, there is Chinese songs, music, dance, percussion, and arts and crafts for children, as well as TaiChi, Bamboo dance, and Chinese naming. Food vendors are on site too. We are collaborated with Borderless Arts TN, whose dancers presented a Chinese fan dance, and MLK High School's Chinese language program, whose students performed lion dance and Kung Fu fan dance; while Brentwood High's students sang popular Chinese tunes, and Franklin High School recited ancient Chinese poetry. The Nashville Chinese School presented Chinese yo-yo. Nashville Ukulele Society's musicians also played Chinese music at the event.

We had also produced a Chinese fable story, 'Lost Horse, A Blessing in Disguise.' The dance theater is based on a text written by Liu An in 139 BCE. We presented 'Stone Soup' for very young audience, and 'group drumming' for youth.

CAAN's Lion Dance and Drumming team has performing since 2006. Whenever we went we brought excitements and joy to people. We also have estabaished CAAN's Student Lion Dance program that train young dancers to become Chinese lion dancers. We have been performing at various locations in Middle TN. The Lion Dance Team also runs a 'Lion Dance Class for kids.' This program offers opportunity for younger children have a chance to learn the lion dance skills. In addition to the lion dance groups, we also run Nashville Chinese Dragon Dance Team. Our dragon prop is 60 feet long and needs to performed by 11 people and musicians. It takes much efforts to coordinate the team to mobilize this huge magnificent dragon prop! We are proud to have such unique team in the Middle of TN.

| Chinese Arts Alliance is entering its 15th year. Over the years, CAAN performances have included over 100 performers, six drums and lions, one Monkey King, a Moon Goddess, the great woman warrior Mulan, and a 60-foot long dragon. CAAN's first performance, Our Stories, told the famous Chinese fold story of Monkey King, CAAN's next performance, Moon Goddess, told the story of Hou Yi who was an archer who shot down nine suns in order to save the world and he married Chang-e. The next production was about MuLan, who pretended to be a man in order to replace her aging father who was called to battle by the emperor. Then, 'Dragon Pearl' told how a boy became a dragon. And 'QiXi-a famous Chinese love story.' Each of these productions brought to life on the stage of Ingram Hall folk tales that have been told and re-told in Chinese hoes for centuries. CAAN has also brought more contemporary themes to the stage. 'NuShu' was about a Chinese language that was spoken and understood only by women, and 'Dragon Dialogues' presented three different voices from within a Chinese woman. The 'Snow Lotus' and 'QuYuan' dance pieces were set to music originally scored by composers in Beijing and Taiwan, and were performed by Vanderbilt Wind Symphony and the Blakemore Trio. 'Looking Back' was nostalgia about the past, and the music was played by cellist Felix Wang from Blair String Quartet. Moving off of the proscenium stage, CAAN has brought Chinese folk culture to dozens of venues across town. 'Chinese Story in Motion' was a pop up theater that was presented at smaller venues. 'Lost Horse' was presented in schools, libraries and retirement homes. CAAN's lion dancers and drummers have performed at Schermerhorn Hall, the Nashville Dragon Boat Festival, the National folk Festival, the Frist Center for visual Arts, Discovery Ct. in Murfreesboro and many community centers and parks across the middle TN. We also push further to establish Chinese New Year Celebration at Hillsboro Village for 2 years. The event was one of the most successful community activities that Chinese Arts Alliance hosted. |
