In addition to promoting literacy, and parental engagement, Story Book Trails encourage families to connect with nature and engage in a healthy, outdoor activity. In 2017, the Tennessee State Parks Conservancy and the Governor's Books from Birth Foundation developed a partnership with the goal of expanding Story Books Trails to more Tennessee State Parks through coordinated fundraising efforts and leveraging publisher relationships. The Tennessee State Parks Conservancy's Kids in Parks Program covers transportation, lunch and relevant project supplies for students to get out of a traditional classroom setting and take a field trip to one of the 56 state parks across Tennessee. Field trips give students the chance to learn about wildlife, the environment and Tennessee history through an immersive, hands-on experience.
