Description
The Mentoring program is an intensive program in which adolescent and teenage boys (sons) from single parent homes are paired with male mentors (surrogate fathers) who will have a long-term relationship with the boy and take an active interest in his life, with the goal of helping these young men break the cycle of fatherlessness in their lives. During the summer, Foundation sons who are of working age (above 15) are placed in summer long paid internships with some of our affiliates such as Chase Construction, Care Supply, Huseby Homes, Stor Place and others. Sons who are under the age of fifteen shadow local businessmen two days a week and experience a father's life in the workplace as he provides for his family. This experience, perhaps more than any other we offer, allows our sons a view of life that previously was unknown to many of them. It also gives them hope of the life they themselves can aspire to in the future. FFF Sons are required to save 20 percentage of their earnings.

Description
A significant portion of the FFF budget has gone to ensure the sons receive a first-rate college preparatory education. Since 1998, private schools including Lighthouse Christian School, Nashville Christian Academy, Davidson Academy and now Lipscomb Acadamy have partnered with us to give our FFF sons a strong educational foundation and academic support. Many boys come to us with severe deficiencies in the areas of reading and mathematics and require additional tutoring and hard work on the part of the child to catch up to the expected level of his peers. These are boys for whom the public education system has not been able to provide for and without assistance would likely not have the benefit a completed high school diploma. Our final Family Foundation Fund Legacy son, in the 2023-2024 school year, the FFF will underwrite the cost of tuition, transportation, tutoring, and educational grant for our remaining son.

Description
"Where are the Fathers?" program is a newly launched addition to The Intentional Fatherhood Program. It expands accessibility to the program by offering web-based tutorial combined with tri-annual "Intentional Fathers" workshops. Maintaining the integrity of the Family Foundation Funds model of mentorship, each participating father in the program will be matched with a fathering advocate who will assist him on their fatherhood journey. Additionally, anyone interested can freely utilize the web-based materials. Applicants for the annual program must apply by 01/15/2023 and commit to the in-person tri-annual training sessions.

Outreach will focus on young fathers who themselves were not fathered, and men in marginalized communities. It will also enable a life-span legacy for Christian men to be trained from their youth to understand their roles as a male, husband and father based in biblical principles, and to apply these understandings and biblical fathering methods as adults.

SonShine Farms TN is our seven-acre organic educational garden in Joelton, TN that is used as a learning laboratory for the young men in our program. The SonShine Farm resource is available year-round to all our program participants, including the mothers, surrogate fathers and the summer (exclusive) participants. The FFF sons learn the power of covenant through the germination process of the seed, soil, sun, and water. With their hands and eyes and mouths they experience that there are many stages to the life journey that all come together and are equally important, a holistic lesson that often takes some time for them to realize. Their hard work and sweat produces actual, physical results as they see the results of sowing and reaping, which is a life principle. During the FFF son's Summer Son camp they participate in, health and wellness training, and learn the importance of nutrition and eating organically.

Every summer the Family Foundation Fund provides a two week "Son Camp" where participants engage in a high ropes course at Barefoot Republic, Deer Run, team Olympics, swimming, camping, canoeing in the local rivers, daily devotions, life skills workshops, and community volunteer days to give back to our supporters. Part summer camp, part boot camp, and all life camp, the emphasis is on teamwork and overcoming obstacles. Son Camp teaches our FFF sons to think corporately as a team and a family that works together to surmount challenges that test their endurance and build character. Son Camp is open to a larger number of participants than our yearlong, legacy mentoring and education program and allows us to reach families unable to commit to the full program. Many of our participants stay in contact with us for events throughout the year and return to Son Camp the following summer.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

One challenge for the summer mentoring program is finding professionals in the community who will step up and allow the sons to shadow them for two days. This provides them with invaluable first-hand relational experience with responsible men, in the occupational environment. Another challenge is securing internships for those sons in the program who are between 15-18 years old. We seek individuals and companies who will allow the boys an opportunity to gain the opportunity to develop a skill-set, where their skills are previously limited. These two needs are addressed by contacting our former and current corporate partners, making our needs known to them and asking for their assistance. All of the FFF sons will experience seasonal entrepreneurial opportunities through our SonShine Farms Tn share program and our partnership with the Cookery on 12th ave where Share partners pick up their produce share..
