Description
NashDiaper's Diapers for Diplomas Program ("D4D") is designed to reduce barriers that hinder parenting students from completing a postsecondary education. D4D provides diaper scholarships for parenting students attending the 4 greater Nashville community colleges. Each recipient will get all the diapers their child needs while the parents are in school. D4D offers a unique support by providing an immediate, tangible solution (diapers) to the basic needs insecurity parenting students' face. Money saved on diapers is available for other needs (food) thus removing added barriers which threaten a parenting student's pursuit of a degree. By investing in diaper supportive services, D4D helps parenting students meet their financial, caregiving and time demands, allowing them to focus on their studies. A degree opens opportunities for good jobs, jobs that can become successful careers. These careers contribute to an improved TN Workforce, an employer's success, and will lead to a better life.
Program Successes
This program is intended to help parenting students manage the dual challenges of parenting and post-secondary education. Our first Cohort's success - the student's individual success - defined as either graduation or course completion was impressive individually and collectively. 78% of this first Cohort were successful by this definition, significantly higher than Reconnect Tennessee overall success rate of 61% as announced in their most recently released reporting.'
98% of 21-22 scholarship recipients surveyed reported their monthly diaper need was met through the scholarship.
100% of 21-22 scholarship recipients reported feeling their D4D scholarship was worth it.
98% of 21-22 scholarship recipients reported that they are "extremely likely" to recommend this Program.
95% of 21-22 scholarship recipients reported feeling that they were "very satisfied" with the Program.
100% of implementing stakeholders surveyed rated the program favorably in 21-22 Program Assessment meetings.

D4D seeks to provide support for historically marginalized students by improving postsecondary enrollment and graduation rates while improving opportunities for meaningful, long-term career choices. D4D's measure of success is based on the following data: the % of D4D scholarship recipients that (a) graduate or (b) remain enrolled in pursuit of a degree or certification. Our goal is to have at least 65% of our scholarship recipients graduate or remain enrolled by the end of their scholarship term, compared to the 61% of overall TN Reconnect recipients who were reported to have graduated or re-enrolled.
Short-term Success
The Diapers for Diplomas Program objective is to promote increased engagement by parenting students and community colleges in academic routines that are shown to improve the education outcomes for parenting students, specifically certificate/degree persistence and completion. NashDiaper's target Program outcomes are:
(1) Increased representation (when compared to the Tennessee Reconnect recipients overall) by previously marginalized student populations in scholarship recipient pool: Parenting Students, BIPOC students, First generation college students, Adult Learners
(2) More than 85% of scholarship recipients surveyed reporting diaper need met through the scholarship
(3) More than 85% of scholarship recipients surveyed rating the Diapers for Diplomas Program favorably in end of year surveys
(4) More than 85% of implementing stakeholders surveyed (Tennessee Reconnect Navigators and community college staff) rating the program favorably in Program Assessment meetings with stakeholders

Description
Nashville Diaper Connection's Connections™ Program uses our diaper donations to promote increased engagement by parents and caregivers in healthcare routines that are proven to improve the health outcomes of their children, specifically well-child visits and recommended immunizations. We make diapers available at our Clinic Connections™ Partners. These Clinics provide 50 diapers to parents who bring their diaper age child (or children) for well-child visits, recommended immunizations, or developmental screenings. Parents are eligible for these diapers at each of the encounters recommended in the "Bright Futures" schedule published by the American Academy of Pediatrics. When more children receive the recommended care, vaccination rates increase, EPSDT rates increase, and key screenings increase. Many parents are introduced to our Clinic Connections™ partners as a result of our diapers. We believe many will stay for the quality care our Partner Clinics provide.
Program Successes
Through April 2023, our indicators of program success are as follows: we have held 206 events, engaged with over 45,860+ individuals and families resulting in 21,830+ vaccinations and/or EPSDTs/well-child visits. 33 clinics participated in this effort across 21 counties in Middle Tennessee since November, 2020.
In February 2022, our partnership with Meharry Medical, the Clinic Connections component of this program was selected as one of 20 winners of the "Promoting Pediatric Primary Prevention (P4) Challenge" of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This was a year-long nationwide competition to increase pediatric vaccination rates and well-child visits. In July 2021, this program was recognized as a "Promising Practice" by the Association of Maternal & Child Health Programs ("AMCHP") and included in their "Innovation Hub" database.
