Description
Independent Living is the umbrella term given to the opportunities we provide to empower people with disabilities to have more choice, be more included, and live the life they choose. At its heart, IL is a culture ... a language ... a way of being. This is determined by the person with a disability. Our job is to facilitate the conversation about what a person's goals are and what resources are needed to achieve them.

The goals can range from moving out of a nursing home into community living, obtaining a job at competitive wages and in an integrated setting, learning how to use a smartphone, connecting with others with similar experiences to discuss the challenges and successes of living life a little different than others, or simply knowing how to speak to others about what's important.

The empowerment resources can include person-centered transition planning, resume building, training with assistive technology devices, and facilitating peer support groups.
