Description
Oasis Center's Youth Action, Advocacy & Education Programs (AAE) is dedicated to empowering young people to be catalysts for positive social change. We offer a continuum of opportunities designed to provide young people with services that prevent problems, advance academic success, encourage community service, and promote college access. Young people, in turn, leverage these supports and opportunities to deepen their awareness of and take action on community issues, becoming advocates and organizers for social change. Each year, AAE programs serve over 2,000 at-risk youth, ages 11-18, across a powerful array of programs like the Bike Workshop, Just Us (LGBTQ support and empowerment), R.E.A.L (juvenile justice diversion), the Mayor's Youth Council, International Teen Outreach Program (community belonging for immigrant/refugee youth), the Oasis Art Studio, and Oasis College Connection.

CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

Today's youth are in need of a wide range of opportunities to divert them from unhealthy choices available to them, and since the interests and needs of youth are complex, we are challenged to continuously stay up on the issues important to them and affecting their well-being. We tackle this challenge by engaging youth as partners in the solutions and program activities that are meaningful to them. Even so, finding a "one-size fits all" set of services won't work or achieve the results youth find important. As such, our staff continually evaluate, re-design, and implement services to meet the complex and changing environment of our young people, and work hard to capture the metrics that demonstrate to our funders, peers and community results that are worthy of their investment.
