CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments

The challenges facing Operation Song? go hand in hand with our successes and opportunities. Like many developing non-profits, Operation Song started out as an idea, with one person, in our case Bob Regan-- taking that idea and running with it. The first two years were spent with Bob trying out the concept, and the more he did, the more he realized that it really was a viable alternative therapy for veterans and their families. Since then we have expanded nationally and have written nearly 1500 songs with the military community. We have an active and involved board composed of people who have been involved in the program first hand: veterans, songwriters, and therapists, all of whom volunteer regularly. We have recently added new board members with leadership experience in the business, military and music communities. The challenge is to get Operation Song to a point where it becomes sustainable and not overly dependent upon the vision and efforts of a few. The core of the program is the process of songwriting, the intimacy of the interaction between the writers and veterans. We have now created a structure surrounding that core, one that enables Operation Song to continue to do the work of helping veterans and the military community have their stories and their songs be heard.
