CEO/Executive Director/Board Comments
The challenges and opportunities that face Operation Song are coming into clearer focus as we enter our fifth year as a 501(c)(3). At the beginning of 2015, within months of becoming a non-profit, we received an unsolicited check for $25,000 from the Independence Fund. That enabled us to say 'Yes,' to almost everything and to explore several opportunities for expansion, as well as to accept the invitation to bring veterans and staff to Washington DC for our Memorial Day performances. With our Director, Bob Regan, working full time (pro-bono,) we expanded our weekly workshops and put on several weekend retreats around TN and the South East. During 2016, we were able to secure funding for our Chattanooga weekly program from a local donor. We also received grants to run two of our Nashville VA 10 week programs and we have received grants from the Tennessee Arts Commission, the VFW Auxiliary. the Federation of Women's Clubs, the Journey Home Project and others. In 2019, we partnered with the national VA to put on retreats in Nashville for veterans from around the country. Some programs have no designated sponsor and they are funded from our general fund. Expenses such as recording, CD's etc. incurred for those programs came from our operating funds. As of now, we are looking towards expansion beyond the Middle Tennessee area and on reaching our long-term goal of expanding nationwide. The need is there, and Operation Song? has proven that we have the ability to fill it. |
