Daniel's Experience: Dr. Daniel Joranko is moving from being the Co-Executive Director of TAP to being the primary Executive Director. He is the former Project Director on the Tennessee Alliance for Progress Green Jobs Initiative and also served as the Board Chairperson of TAP. He has substantial experience in community organization. He was a lead organizer for one of Chicago's leading multi-ethnic, multi-racial community organizations -- the Northwest Community Organization. During his time there he was a key organizer in a coalition which became perhaps the nation's leading statewide energy coalition led by low and moderate income individuals based in Chicago's west and south side, East St. Louis, and the rural southern counties of Illinois. Notable community organizing in Tennessee includes serving as a volunteer organizer of the Grassroots Organizing Committee to Save TennCare in 2004-2005. This effort brought together people on TennCare to wage an intensive local campaign. It was organized across race and class lines and included people with health challenges and disabilities in leadership positions. Dan was also the Screening Coordinator for two years of Kilowatt Ours, a film on energy conservation, green jobs and mountain top removal that was shown nationally on public television. He has a PhD from Michigan State University in Resource Development/Urban Studies. He currently teaches courses at Vanderbilt University such as 'Community Sustainable Development,' 'Social Action in the City,' and 'Peace, Restoration and Reconciliation.' He is the coordinator of the Vanderbilt Divinity School Riverbend program that sponsors classes at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution with equal numbers of Divinity students and prisoners in regular graduate level classes. |
