Mission

Our mission is to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in reaching their maximum potential and enabling them to lead dignified and meaningful lives. We currently meet this objective by caring for nearly 300 adult Tennesseans with intellectual and developmental disabilities, who reside in our 41 community based group homes.

Background

Established in 1986, Open Arms Care Corporation is the largest private provider of ICF/IDD (Intermediate Care Facility) services to clients with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Open Arms Care has been a leader in the ICF/IDD provider community and has remained stable amid funding changes and has improved quality, financial metrics trending and has restructured for efficiency and effectiveness. In 2017 Open Arms care partnered with the State of Tennessee to develop nine new Group homes, creating an opportunity to assist people living in a state institution to relocate to communities in Knoxville, Chattanooga and Greeneville. This effort afforded the residents a much improved lifestyle in a private home setting and 24/7 staffing for their clinical support and personal development and active treatment. In 2021 Open Arms Care completed ten new residences in the Memphis area to better serve our individuals with more opportunities to engage with their community. In 2022, Open Arms Care replaced eight homes in the Knoxville area.

Impact

Open Arms Care impacts the lives of those in our care by providing them with experiences and opportunities afforded typically able-bodied persons. We offer each and every resident an individualized service plan to best match resources to the needs of the individual. As part of our service, we offer 24 hour staffing including nursing and direct caregivers, with medical doctors available 24 hours per day. With few exceptions, our services are provided without charge to the individual or their families. For many families the cost of providing the type of care performed by Open Arms Care would be a financial hardship and deplete resources necessary to support other family members. Open Arms Care couldn't perform its mission without the support of nearly 1,000 staff who are grateful for the opportunity to work with such deserving clients and their family members.

Needs

Top 5 Needs: Funding for new music program, arts program, outdoors program and computer lab. Funding for local events and new experiences. New funding for Capital expansion for increased capacity. Additional funding for salary/wage increases for Direct Support Professionals. Opportunities for improving community awareness (speaking engagements).

Board Chair Statement

As a private, not-for-profit organization, and the largest Intermediate Care Facility provider in the state of Tennessee, we take responsibility for the services we provide very seriously. Each group home is located in a community setting and specifically designed to meet the needs of those we serve. Our residents and staff are actively involved in personal development, volunteering, working and participating in community activities; where they find meaning in their contributions and affirmation from those whom they interact. Open Arms Care is staffed by nearly a 1,000 dedicated employees who are key to the success of our clients and our programs. Employees give of themselves and often times their families. There is no greater calling than to serve for the benefit of others less fortunate. We are very grateful for their continued service and commitment. As we look forward to the next thirty years, we need everyone's help and support in realizing our expanding mission, improved programs and new homes. When possible, please share your talents, your treasures and your time to assist us in these efforts. Respectfully, Rob Taylor IV.
