Mission

To support and equip women with tools and resources for emotional, physical and financial well-being.

Background

SEEDS grew from the need for renewing social support especially among women facing difficult life transition in times of need and to reconnect with the larger community.

Impact

In 2018, the SEEDS Wellness Challenge winner lost weight (about 3% body fat) and was able to maintain it due to the online support received and the group hiking and fitness opportunity. Families benefit from the SEEDS of Peace Community Garden (SPCG) by maintaining a plot and growing vegetables. Given the current challenges from COVID-19 we, like many organizations, will alter our activities until things normalize. Instead of managing a community garden, in 2020, we plan to educate and empower participants to attend introductory gardening workshops, give them gardening tools to engage in their personal gardening where they live. The goal in 2020 is to 1) Educate 20 individuals for lifestyle change for healthier eating, physical activity and stress management for the Wellness Journey and Challenge; 2) Educate about healthy eating and growing own vegetables; 3) Support a woman's business; 4) Financially assist participants' with 10 counseling sessions.

Needs

Our pressing needs include:
1. funding our first woman small business initiative at just $1000
2) Funding 10 counseling sessions, $2000
3) Empowering 10 families to start their small garden at home, $1000; In kind donations of garden hand tools, organic soil, organic plant foods and heirloom seeds are welcome.
4) SEEDS Wellness Challenge activities, $1000.
5) We're looking for officers and board members.

CEO Statement

Having you read this is an honor. It means you care enough to read our statements and look into what we do. We strive to improve women's lives through education and practice because we believe the starting point is awareness before action. When I moved to Nashville seven years ago, I was humbled by the number of women who gravitated towards me. At the time, I was myself a volunteer at a newly opened community center where I helped to establish it. My sisters voiced out their need to rely on each other in times of crisis. We started off with a different structure like a club where members payed monthly funds. Later we incorporated SEEDS of Tennessee in 2016, changing our activities and goals as we grow. Funding is always a hurdle but people like you who understand what we do make it easier. We're so excited to see our first woman small business support take shape and funding this initiative is critical at this time. Thank you for your interest. ~Fatimah Ali.
