Mission

To glorify God by helping people move from homelessness and despair to hope as part of Christ's community by providing housing, mentoring, job training, discipleship, and service opportunities.

Background

In 2009 Lambscroft was formed from a group of volunteers who, in prior years worked together to provide food for the homeless in the streets of Nashville. The "Upper Room"-the basketball gym located behind Woodbine Presbyterian Church, now known as Connection Pointe- was initially given to provide 6-7 men an overnight stay, providing them with a meal, shower, and safe place to rest. With the May 2010 flood, the needs for shelter and meals increased dramatically requiring Lambscroft to increase the numbers served. Now there are as many as 70 homeless a night seeking shelter and meals. At one point, we maxed out at over 90.In 2010, Lambscroft developed a discipleship home, providing housing for 4 men and creating community and opportunity for healing and restoration. Expectation is that each house member pays rent and commit to a lifestyle of discipleship and service. In 2012 we opened our second discipleship house. Wanting to do more than just meet the immediate physical needs of the homeless, Lambscroft launched a new program in 2013 to provide professional and practical culinary training with the expectation each graduate will secure employment in Nashville's restaurant industry.

Impact

2023 Impact: Enrolled 11 students all of whom received temporary housing, clothing, transportation and meals for the duration of their stay. Graduated 2 students whom received ServSafe Management level certificates. In addition we care for Nashville's homeless community by providing an average of 700 meals per month bringing an annual total of approximately 8400 meals served.

2022 Impact: Enrolled 15 students. Graduated 1. 2 students still enrolled with Spring 2023 graduation dates. Weekly food outreach to +/- 100 homeless on streets/campsites. ServSafe Training continues at the Davidson County Correctional Detention Center and CoreCivic.

2021 Impact: Enrolled 10 students. Graduated 1. (2 Students still enrolled in 2022). Due to COVID-19 Pandemic we had to change out intake method for students to include testing and quarantine. We have not taken in as many students as in previous years. Our restaurant and culinary program has been greatly negatively impacted by the pandemic. We are currently looking to increase sales and donations to continue our outreach in a new, careful way.
We gave out daily sandwich meals to homeless camps in the area. Over 17,000 meals were prepared and given freely to those in need.
Culinary Training at CoreCivic and Davidson County Sheriffs Correctional Facility began again.

2020 Impact: Enrolled YTD : 7 Students. Graduated 2. Due to COVID-19 Pandemic we had to change out intake method for students to include testing and quarantine. We have not taken in as many students as in previous years. Our restaurant and culinary program has been greatly negatively impacted by the pandemic. We are currently looking to increase sales and donations to continue our outreach in a new, careful way.

2019 Impact: Enrolled 6 Students in Culinary Programs,. Graduated 1. Temporarily Housed 22 men. Taught ServSafe to 36 inmates (men and women) at CoreCivic and Davidson County Sheriffs Correctional Facility. Served Breakfast every Saturday in partnership with Downtown Presbyterian Church to 100+ individuals.

2018 Impact:The Cookery Culinary Program:Enrolled: 12 Graduates: 7ServSafe Food Handlers Certificate:11ServSafe Managers Certificate: 6 Graduates currently employed at The Cookery: 5The Cookery turned Five in September 2018. Food Pantry: We have served the local community in the 12thSouth/Edgehill area by opening a food pantry every Wednesday through Friday with the food donations from Fresh Market.Disciple Houses:We opened our 3rd Disciple House in March of 2018. It currently serves as our Graduate transition home. We temporarily housed 24 men during 2018.Holiday MealsThanksgiving and Christmas we were able to serve holiday meals to over 250 people, homeless and housed, both time.We partnered with Downtown Presbyterian Church and Tabernacle of Glory to host and serve our guests during these meals.Through supporters, we were also able to give out over 250 gifts. DCSO Food Safety Classes: Twice a week, teach at the Davidson County ail. Food safety program. Saturday Morning Breakfast for HomelessWe partner with Downtown Presbyterian Church to bring breakfast to our homeless friends in downtown Nashville every Saturday morning at 8:30am. Breakfast is served every Saturday, all year long. Insight Counseling Centers Partnership We began a partnership with Insight Counseling to help meet the mental and behavioral health needs of our students and staff. Faith Family Medical Center Our students receive medical care through the great services provided by Faith Family staff. 2017 Impact:The Cookery Culinary Program:Eight New Program StudentsTwo Graduates in 2016.Three passed ServSafe Certification in 2016.Three total Graduates currently employed at The Cookery.Celebrated The Cookery's Four Year Anniversary

Needs

Our most pressing needs! 1) Restaurant Management positions needed in both Kitchen Manager/Sous Chef position and Restaurant Manager Position. Filling these positions will free our head chef to spend more time in personally training our students, moving more men through the program more efficiently.

2) The Cookery Culinary School Scholarship Fund. Our current budget per student is $3700 for 3 months.

3) Grow Board membership. We need new fresh vision and voices for our Board and Committees.

4) Mentors. We are in need of mentors for our culinary students and disciple house members.

Areas Served

The homeless clients served come from the Metro and greater Nashville area. We have had two enrollees come from New York after hearing about our program at one of the homeless shelters in the city.
