Mission

To provide wellness resources to nonprofit and ministry staff in order to alleviate burnout and promote individual and organizational health.

Background

Day 7 has been the growing dream of three individuals with a desire to invest into the passionate work of nonprofit and ministry staff.

In 2004, Marsha Crownover discovered the world of life and executive coaching and the immense value a coach can provide to someone as they process the challenges of personal and professional life. Coming from her own professional background in counseling, she knew that days for helping professionals could be grueling and exhausting. However, Marsha saw a gap and noticed that coaching was not always accessible to those within the nonprofit sector. Coach Approach, Inc. was founded with the mission to fill this gap and provide affordable life and executive coaching to those in nonprofit helping professions.

In 2015, Peter Ferguson experienced his own need in ministry. He saw that too often pastors lack the confidential support necessary to work from a place of vulnerable health. He knew first hand the reality of burnout and how the lack of authentic community impacts those in ministry. There is a lack of support and barriers to care due to resources being too expensive. Peter founded Day 7, Inc. to provide confidential health resources, including counseling and retreats, to pastors and their families.

In 2017, Candace Clippard was in a place of work and life transition. With a background in nonprofit ministry that partnered with other nonprofits on a regular basis, she saw and experienced firsthand the effects of burnout and turnover and the negative impact those had on organizations. She also saw the lack of affordable options for those in nonprofit and ministry jobs and the barriers they faced to access the resources and tools needed to help combat burnout.

In late 2017 and early 2018, in a serendipitous series of events, Candace connected with both Marsha and Peter. They all quickly realized that their hearts aligned in the way they each wanted to care for the caretaker, and they each believed that in order to care well for others, you must also care for yourself well. By June of 2018, Candace had taken over both Coach Approach and Day 7. Through partnerships with wellness providers across the city we began to offer various types of health resources to nonprofit helping professionals and pastors. In 2019, Day 7 and Coach Approach officially merged and we are now operating as Day 7, Inc.

Impact

In 2018, Day 7 (formerly Coach Approach) came under new leadership and grew from a small organization serving a handful of clients annually and bringing in $0 in revenue, to serving 45 clients by the start of 2019 and bringing in over $50,000 in revenue. They grew from offering just life/executive coaching services to offering a variety of services in the areas of physical, emotional, and spiritual health. They also went from being a free service to creating a sustainable program in which participants are willing and eager to pay. In August of 2019, Coach Approach took over the operations of Day 7, a second nonprofit, and officially changed their name to Day 7, Inc. To date, Day 7 has created and managed self-care plans for 200+ individuals; partners with 250+ contract wellness providers in the Nashville community; has hosted 100+ workshops; and gets called regularly by local nonprofits including consulting with the Center for Nonprofit Management to lead workshops on self-care, staff-care, and healthy work cultures.

Needs

Our key need is additional scholarship funds so we can serve more nonprofit leaders and staff. Our projected budget for 2022 is $239,000.

CEO Statement

Working in nonprofit professions is hard and exhausting work, and burnout and high staff turnover are all too common within this industry. Nonprofit professionals leave their jobs too soon, exist in a state of survival, and go through life exhausted, often sacrificing their own well-being for the sake of their job. Day 7provides the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual resources to nonprofit helping professions so that they are equipped to not just survive, but thrive in their roles. When nonprofit employees prioritize their self-care, they are able to do their jobs better and lead a more sustainable life. Prioritizing self-care eliminates burnout, increases effectiveness, and deepen staff commitment to the organization's mission. Burnout, staff turnover, exhaustion and decreased job effectiveness don't have to define the good work nonprofit organizations are accomplishing. When nonprofit helping professionals can be mindful of their own personal health and invest in their own growth and self-care they are more effective employees, healthier humans and more satisfied with their job and life.
