Mission

The FTH Foundation provides a diverse range of music enrichment experiences through numerous creative platforms as well as a sports and wellness program after school and during the summer for youth in vulnerable communities while enhancing holistic self-awareness, and academic achievement.

Background

The vision for this foundation began with a conversation about the need for more intimate, intentional enrichment programs for underserved children. The visionary, Kerry Frazier--moved his family to affordable housing after unsuccessfully finding housing that was safe yet affordable. After living in the community for one month, he noticed that the kids were roaming the streets with seemingly nothing to do even though there were at least two recreation centers within walking distance. Kerry talked to a few of the kids and asked them why they were not going to the other centers and their response was that they would go there to play ball or simply play. Kerry is an educator and a musician thus he referred to his Master's research and was reminded of the importance of the Arts to academic achievement. His uncle, Corey Harris, is a retired NFL player and Super Bowl Champion. They began to brainstorm ways to bridge arts, sports, and academics into one program to change lives in this small community. With the assistance of his mom--an educational leader--the vision was brought to life and the work really began. Numerous meetings were held with elected officials, organizations, passionate like-minded individuals, etc. to expedite the opening of the L.I.F.E. (love, integrity, faith, education) House. The FTH Foundation is the overarching organization that oversees this network of collaborative concepts and ensures that appropriate relationships are developed and sustained in support of the mission. The core programs of the LH are; Music for LIFE, The Impact Sports Zone, College and Career Readiness, and Tutoring/Homework Assistance as needed. In addition to the core programs for the students, it is important that we value the family structure in these vulnerable communities. We provide L.I.F.E. support to not only the students but also their families. We connect families to resources or provide the support needed during the time of crisis such as free Uber rides, free haircuts, personal hygiene products, etc. We hold a community clean up to instill a sense of pride in the residents for their community. We are beginning a 'I Run These Streets' health initiative to stress the importance of healthy living despite the emotional challenges they face. These residents need us in their community. We have earned their trust and they trust their kids with us. We do not take them out of their comfort zone.

Impact

Through a partnership with Metro Development Housing Agency, we were donated a 1,000 square foot facility to house our enrichment programs--we appropriately named the facility--The L.I.F.E. (Love, Integrity, Faith, Education) House. We conducted a book drive which resulted in over 4,000 books being collected to establish a Residential Library at the L.I.F.E. House. We host an annual summer band camp for middle school students that has impacted over 500 kids since 2015. We provide private music lessons for students who can't afford to pay; we provide digital music and traditional band instruction to juvenile offenders. We established a mentoring program for aspiring minority non-profit owners. Established a 'Barber for Books' program; students who bring in book reports will receive a free haircut and be taught basic life skills such as changing a tire or learning to tie a tie. Goals:Have at least 20 students to improve academically and reduce the number of discipline referrals; have all core programs staffed and functioning; have at least 50 volunteers serve the LIFE House and programming in some capacity; receive four grants to support our programs; develop an annual fundraising campaign with a $50,000 goal

Needs

We are still in need of two15 passenger vans to assist with transportation to field trips and assist parents who do not have transportation; full backline of music equipment with carrying cases; an upgraded PA system; additional sporting equipment; balls, ropes, cones, etc.

CEO Statement

As the inaugural Executive Director, I am excited to be a part of this life-changing organization. Our very small but committed team has accomplished a lot over the last several years with very limited funding. We believe that this model that we have developed can be duplicated across our country. Love Integrity Faith and Education is the foundation of everything we do, however, we need the support of the philanthropic community.

Board Chair Statement

I am elated about the growth and development of our organization. The diverse range of activities that are provided to the youth of our community has touched lives in ways unimaginable. We provide programming year-round. The youth seek out our Directors and ask to be engaged. The international outreach and engagement have been amazing. We have hosted students from around the world for three consecutive years through our collaboration with Tennessee State University. Our students have also been traveling abroad each year. We are helping to prepare the next generation of global leaders--from the heart.
