Description
The Music for LIFE program is conducted year-round in various schools and the juvenile detention center. Students come from a wide range of socioeconomic backgrounds and academic standings; Music industry professionals, graduate-level music students, and music professors make up the cadre of individuals retained to ensure the success of the music program. Through music recording workshops, songwriting workshops, rehearsals, music research, and performances, the participants will explore themes of community, choice, accountability, responsibility, contribution, leadership, and confidence in performing and speaking publicly. Sports for LIFE aka the Impact Zone is a sports, health and wellness program that focuses on teaching the need and benefit of a great attitude, work ethic, teamwork, and good decision-making while building the intangible traits and talents of the student through fitness, nutrition, athletic and sports programming. The students learn basic fundamentals of numerous sports, participate in scrimmage and exhibition games, meet professional athletes and engage in deep dive dialogue, visit sports arenas; they learn proper nutrition and wellness tips; they participate in cooking classes and learn the art of gardening. In addition to improving the physical nature of the students, the sports program seeks to improve the student as it relates to critical thinking, critical sports skill; and critical sports reaction.

The challenge with the music program is keeping instruments in the hands of the students. We are working with some of the local music stores, music organizations and music industry professionals to assist with this challenge.
