Mission

To increase awareness of Pulmonary Hypertension and build healthier communities.

Impact

The Roberta Baines-Wheeler Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Group is dedicated to increasing public about pulmonary hypertension (PH) - a chronic lung disease characterized by high blood pressure in the lungs' arteries, which can lead to heart failure if left untreated. Our mission is critical because awareness is a powerful tool in early diagnosis and management, potentially saving lives and improving the quality of life for those affected.

We actively contribute to building healthier communities through our seven signature annual programs:

RBW Mental Health Symposium: Addressing the psychological aspects of living with PH and providing support for mental well-being.
Caregiver Appreciation Day: Celebrating and supporting the unsung heroes caring for others.
RBW PH Awareness Sunday: Engaging with communities to spread the word and educate on PH.
RBW PH Awareness 5k and Health Fair: Promoting physical activity and health education, essential for preventing and managing chronic diseases, including PH.
RBW "Her Life, Our Legacy": Honoring those who have lost their mothers and loved ones and celebrating their lives and contributions.
Literacy Initiative: Empowering individuals with knowledge through literature to understand PH and advocate for health.
RBW PH Awareness Day: A dedicated day to increase our outreach and impact in spreading PH awareness.

Needs

At the Roberta Baines-Wheeler Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Group, our pursuit to raise awareness aof pulmonary hypertension (PH) is met with challenges. To amplify our efforts we are in urgent need of the following resources:
1. Educational Materials: To inform and educate, we need printing of educational materials on PH.
2. Expert Collaborations: Partnerships with medical professionals and health educators are vital for impactful information.
3. Technology Upgrades: Enhanced website functionality, including multilingual support and accessibility features, would enable us to reach a broader audience.
4. Volunteer Training Programs: Resources to develop comprehensive training programs.
5. Event Sponsors: Sponsorships for our signature events help us to cover operational costs and ensure that these events can be held without financial barriers for participants.
6. Marketing and Outreach: Resources
7. Research Funding: Grants to stay abreast of the latest developments in PH treatment and care.
8. Office Space: A central hub for operations would allow us to coordinate our initiatives more effectively and provide a stable base for our team
9. Donated venues to host our signature events

Board Chair Statement

As the Board Chair of the Roberta Baines-Wheeler Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness Group, I carry a torch that was lit by a remarkable woman, my mother, Roberta Baines-Wheeler. Her life's work as a nurse for over 40 years and her passionate advocacy for pulmonary hypertension (PH) awareness were a testament to her commitment to health and well-being. Even as she bravely faced PH herself, her dedication continued until her passing in 2016.

This organization is more than a tribute to her legacy-it's a continuation of her mission. We stand on the foundation she built, driven by the same values of care, empowerment, and hope that she embodied. Every initiative we undertake, every life we touch, echoes her belief that together, we can make a profound difference. We are all volunteers who want to make sure people learn about this rare disease and also help build healthier communities. Lives matter.

Increasing awareness of PH is not just about spreading information; it's about nurturing a community where empowerment flourishes and where hope grows every day. We have seen the impact of knowledge and support, and we are committed to advancing this cause, just as my mother did.
In her memory, and in honor of all those affected by PH, we carry forward this work. We invite you to join us in this journey to empower, educate and instill hope. With your help, we can continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of many. Will you join us?
