Mission

The Gordon Jewish Community Center welcomes all, builds community, and provides excellent programs rooted in Jewish values to enrich the mind, body, and spirit.

Background

Since 1902, there has been a Jewish Community Center in Nashville, and it has been a thriving member of the greater Nashville community since. In the 1920s, the JCC, then known as the Young Men Hebrew's Association, started one of Nashville's first Girl Scout troops. During the Second World War, the Center accepted refugees from Hitler's Europe, helping them find homes and jobs in the area. In 1965, Nashville's JCC joined the growing number of organizations calling for change by adopting the resolution that, 'services of the Jewish Community Center of Nashville are rendered without discrimination or segregation because of race, creed color or national origin.' To this day, an open and welcoming environment is found by all who enter the Gordon Jewish Community Center. The Center is a gathering place for young and old, who find our art, theater and seniors programs are thriving alongside our state of the art fitness and swimming pool facilities. The sounds of little voices ring out through the halls of our three-star rated early childhood program and our campers who roam the campus each summer. Our 90,000 square foot building, located since 1982 at 801 Percy Warner Blvd in West Nashville, has been and will continue to be, a home away from home for all who enter its doors.

Impact

Each year, thousands of children, families and active seniors make their way through the doors of the Gordon Jewish Community. Inside, they find nourishment for their body, mind and soul, from physical fitness facilities to health screenings, preschool classes to educational lectures, festival, plays, art displays and so much more. Most importantly, the GJCC is a home away from home for all who enter. A true community center, the JCC welcomes outside groups to participate in Under One Roof each fall and our programs often run charity drives and give to the underserved.
The staff and members form an extended family that is always there for each other in times of need. With that in mind, a percentage of members and program participants receive some form of financial assistance. The Gordon JCC is committed to never turning anyone away due to inability to pay for services.

Needs

Membership dues and program fees provide approximately 75% of our annual operating budget. The remaining operational dollars must be raised through fundraising and grants. In addition, the Gordon JCC provides over $120,000 in scholarships to members who demonstrate financial need.
